Suggest replacement alternator

So I need a new (remanufactured) alternator for my '01 Max. Any suggestions on a good replacemnt brand? I see Bosch, Denso, Hi test and some other brands out there. Also I guess in '01 there were two types of plugs, is this based on fed vs. Cali? Please let me know if there are any brands to avoid also.

Personally I wouldn't go with a reman, I've seen way too many of those either DOA or die in a short time. That or just not acting right.

New OE is only ~$230 at Courtesy, less with Dave B most likely. Depending on Dave B's price, it could be as little as ~$40 more than most reman crap you're going to find in auto parts stores.

Those are...radiators. Not alternators. Minor details.

I have a "go-to" shop that re-builds alternators so I don't have to worry even if it craps out. But so far so good with the current alternator they replaced for me.

I think the alternators for the 01 was built by Hitachi. Not a great year for alternators. Try the Bosch or Denso brand and see how it works for you.

Thanks for the input guys. I bought a Bosch and changed it over last night. Wasn't as tuff as some people made it out to be...took a while (4.5 hrs), but not difficult. I highly recommend to any one who tries this replacement themselves to undue the top radiator support on the passenger side as I did. It's much easier then taking the fans off if you want the clearance for the top two long bolts of the A/C compressor...you don't have to do this, but it makes it a lot easier.

Alternator Replacement

I just took out my alternator because my car died. I thought it was a pain in the *** job to get that thing out. I removed the elec. fans, unbolted the A/C compressor (4 bolts), took off both of the top radiator brackets. My alternator came out from the top, it barely fits between the engine and the radiator with the pulley of the alternator facing up.

How do you guys take it out - put it in ? From the top or bottom ?

On my 5th gen, I took it out from the bottom. Fans & rad stayed in place. Only thing I had to remove was the 4 condenser bolts, but this is known. Took me ~45 minutes.

I got a reman. alternator ($150.00) and put it in. It is better to go at it from under the car. Another note for those of you looking for tips to do it your self. Note the position of the nut on the alternator before removal. It is next to the serp. belt tensioner pulley. I put it on wrong and I was unable to tighten the belt because the tensioner hits it if it is not put back on properly. The other thing I ran into was the connector on the alternator would not come off. I actually removed the little pigtail harness that also goes to the A/C compressor. Once I had the alternator out of the car I used needle nose plyers to pinch the tab on the connector to get it off.
