Forbes' 2002 Max review
Forbes' 2002 Max review
Did you guys see the 2k2 Max's review on Forbes?
The reviewer didn't like the steering response and the Max's
handling around winding roads. Would those of you who already
own the 2k2 Max SE's agree with him?

I agree with him, for a consumer who doesn't care about the name of the car or the prestige of driving the flagship, why would he/she pay more for the Max when the Altima is just as good or better in many people's eyes?

in the old reviews of other magazines and websites they always thought the 5th generation max had pretty good handling......would we get better handling then a BMW 3 series wid fstb rsb and springs?
Well I've owned a 2000 VW Passat GLS V6 before I purchased my Maxima and here's my opinion.
1. Interior Space - Maxima
2. Interior Quality - VW
3. Performance - Maxima
4. Handling - Neutral
5. Ride Quality - Maxima
6. Exterior Quality - VW (Maxima Paint X$%^@!)
7. Stereo - Maxima (Bose is alot better than Monsoon)
I have driven and rode in both the new Camry and Toyota neither should be even mentioned as a performance sedan and should not be compared to a Maxima.
Now the Audi is a different story the only questioned about a 24900 Audi is where can you find one???? I have never seen a new Audi A4 under 30K when all of the dealer crap is added!!! The Audi should beat the Maxima in every area except acceleration and interior space. But you can't beat a 2002 Maxima SE 6 spd or auto for the price and that's why I own one and couldn't be happier!

What a load of cr@p.
This Forbes reviewer needs to take his head out of his a$$. It is OBVIOUS that he is completely biased and makes very many erroneous or misleading statements in the review agianst the Maxima. He gripes about the handling, but the tester car was a GLE, not an SE.
Like "With a new, 221-horsepower motor, we think it will probably hang just fine with the Maxima in a straight line, but more importantly, will easily outcorner it. And the base price of the front-wheel drive A4 is $24,900, about the same as the Maxima; inside dimensions are nearly the same as well."
Well, for $24,900 you don't get squat, including that 221 HP he talks about. For the 221 HP, you have to get the 3L, which BASES at $31,965. Oh, did you want sport package with that? Add $750. Did you want HID Xenons? Add $500.
Hmmmm - $25K versus $33K and change. I am glad he was so objective in his review.

If I am not mistaken a rear beam suspension setup is better on corners and such, only when bumps are introduced is the IRS system superior. Funny how they forgot to mention the max has a 6spd and the fit and finish is a lot betterr then the altimas.

yup a rear beam in far superior for flat corners not involing bumps, they are also easier to launch. IRS provides too much squat during launching. who cares what this guy says, if people believe him it leavces more maxima's on the market for us

Is the 2k2 Max's steering feel/response as bad as the reviewer said?
He claimed that the "steering effort and response is too light."
He also claims that "there's just too much body roll with Maxima,
and on off-camber pavement, all sorts of squatting and diving as
well."
Not very flattering comments for the Max!

I don't know what he's talking about.....
I priced out a 6 speed A4 Quattro on the Audi website at $38K with leather, sunroof, sport package xenons and Bose. Hell the The 6 speed Max I'll get will cost me about $25.5K and change!!! Add a grand if I decide I want leather. Just above where he said the A4 starts!!
About the same size??!! Please. There is a 12.5 cubic foot difference in interior volume. Doesn't sound close to me.
I like the A4 (as well as the BMW 3), but come on.
