Annoying catalytic converter.

I've got an 03 TE 6mt, and the cat's rattling. Seems like its the rear manifold. Has anyone had this problem.. If so, what exactly is making noise? would i have to replace the rear manifold?

I've tried sticking something between the shield and cat to hold it from moving and it didn't do anything.

do you have high miles on your maxima? I haven't had a car with CAT. CONV. rattling but allways get cars in with loose heat shields or other loose or broken supporting brackets.

I got headers, problem solved lol. I had the front pre-cat blow when I first got the car and was replaced under warranty, then a couple months ago my rear pre-cat went and that was around the time I wanted my Cattman headers.

Yeah. But you might not want to do that as it will most likely still rattle. The cat rattles because it is probably plugged.

Over time, cats become plugged with carbon.

You'll really have fun when they fall apart b/c it runs too rich. They break apart and plug up the main cat. Kiss your engine goodbye when the back pressure gets done blowing all of your oil out within 1k mi.

Yeah, I know I've posted this a few times, but I'm trying to give fair warning on these WORTHLESS cats. Just gut or remove all of them. They do nothing but cause problems.

If you're gut the cat, might as well just get an aftermarket y-pipe. I had aftermarket y-pipe for a while and when I put my stock y-pipe back on, I lost about 30miles to the tank.

gutting the pre cats wont throw a code but you should first spend some time under your car checking for loose heat shields. If its not a heat shield that is rattling it is more than likely ceramic material in the cat has broken loose and is moving around but that's too common in OEM cats.

Gutting your cats may gain you a few HP but it is rough on the environment

I have a 2001 se, ive had my exhaust rattleing at the cat for a few months now since i had a new catback put in. The place i had it done at said there was a bracket missing that holds the pipe up off of the support right behind the cat. Could be the same issue.

Depending on what state/country - you may be able to have it replaced under warranty. In Canada, the Gov forced Nissan to warranty emission related parts up to 120K km. Had my pre-cat replaced at 115K when it started rattling inside.

I need to look into this. I'm having the same sound and I think I'm running rich and my car has over 215KM. If I got a Megan Cat-back and say a aftermarket Y-pipe would it eliminate my problems? Thanks

I'm pretty sure Nissan only warranties the cats up through 80k.
