Poll: What tuning devices is everyone out there using?

I wanted to begin a survey regarding which tuning device everyone is using or plans to start using and why. Additionally, please include one pro and con. Let the games begin.

Well it depends on if you're a 5th or 5.5

For any, if you only want basic A/F tuning, a AFC (VAFC pref) is your easiest and cheapest option (150-200ish).

For 5th gen more advanced tuning, Emanage Ultimate (350-500ish). I guess you could use the blue, but I'd just go EU.

5.5 gen advanced tuning, you have UTEC (500-900) would also need a V-manage with the UTEC to control CVTC, Haltec/F-con standalones (1200-1800), and possibly Osiris in the near future (900) for options that you can change tunes on. TS reflash (350 L-spec, 695 F-spec) if you don't need to change your tune.

All depends on price range, normally more $ = better options.

Are there 5.5 gen guys out there using the EMU/blue or only 5 gens?

Also, please elaborate on TS L-spec and F-spec reflashes.

Great info man!!!

I think it was Jime who tried the EMU on the 5.5 and fried something. Not sure what it was.

The L-spec does:

- 7100 Rev Limiter (500rpm Increase)
- Speed Limiter Removal
- Drive By Wire Re-mapping
- Stock Fuel, Timing and CVTCS map (no changes)

The F-spec does:

-7100 Rev Limiter (500rpm Increase)
-Speed Limiter Removal
-Ignition Timing Map Adjusted, including CVTC
-Fuel Map Adjusted
-Drive By Wire Re-mapping

E-manage blue. pros are it doesn't flake out at high RPM's like the vafc/safc (from what I have read on here) you can advance timing and it isn't too expensive.
Con's, no launch control no increase for the rev limit which you can get with the ultimate.

I will be buying one of these soon this information is good to know, however the shops around here do not really know that much about tuning Maxima's and they are unsure as to if the tune would even help. When I talk to them they say they can do it but I may end up losing power. My mods are in my sig...Any thoughts on this?

I have been to the dyno 3 times since I tuned my car with the emanage and I have not lost any horsepower. Where do people get these statements from? The major components involved in the tune are bypassed so the ECU has no say in what is going on. The 04+ maximas have a problem because they use a wideband and it can cause the ECU to relearn the tune. But on anything that is 03 or less you should have no problems.

Here is the quote from the tuning shop here in MN. After I asked them about tuning my Max with my mods (listed in my sig). I also asked them which platform was supported and perfered by them...here is the response....

PS I also told them I will being doing a timing advance on the Max as well

"
Nobody does a lot of aftermarket work with Maximas locally, we probably do as much as anyone.

The SAFC and SMT-7 are like comparing apples and oranges. The SAFC would be easy to install and tune, but very limited in what it can do. While the SMT-7 is one of the more advanced piggyback systems. If your car is running too rich under full throttle though and it needs to be leaned out, doign that with an SAFC will usually have the side effect of adding ignition timing advance sue to it changing the load reported to the ECU."

^there it is...thoughts?

I can't answer that one. dandymax installed my EB. IIRC injectors cannot be controlled by the ECU because the wires were cut and spliced into the EB. The ECU has no hope of doing anything to the coils. Not sure how it works with an SAFC. I was under the impression that timing did not affect AFR.
