I stripped one of my front right lugs. So i'm currently running on 4 lugs on that wheel and called the dealer this morn-they want about $100 to r&r (thats parts and labor). Needs done ASAP so i'm not gonna *****-figure it'll save me in the long run to just get it done right.

If you think it'll take them an hour to do one stud, it sounds right.

The stud from Nissan is about $6, just do it yourself in about 30 mins or less.

1. All you do is remove your caliper and rest it somewhere where there is no stress on the brake line (be sure to not let it fall or dangle by the brake line), remove your rotor
2. Hammer the bad stud out with a hammer or mallet
3. Insert the new one
4. Use some washers or even your rim as a "spacer" and tighten the stud HARD with a lug nut to pull it in until the back of it sits as flush as can be. Check against your existing lugs to see how they look from the back.
5. Remove the lug and washers/rim to check how flush it is, repeat 4. if necessary
6. Reinstall brakes
7. Put rim back on
8. Done

 

they do it at walmart for much cheaper. i forgot how much it is, but i think it was less than $30.

that would be more reasonable-too bad we dont have a walmart close that does auto service.

 

its really not bad to DIy,.. i did one on my front pass side before,... you can go to autozone and get a stud and nut for like 3 bucks,.... you will be fine driving for a week or so with only 4 studs,.. so why not wait till the weekend and take care of it then?

 

The Dealer stripped one of my studs once, and I watched them replace it. The stud was spot welded on the back and they had to take a grinder to it before they could bang it out. If you DIY, you may want to look at it a little closer before just starting banging...

then put the new one on,.. and stick it through.. and if u cant bang it back in,.. use some kind of spacer IE washers.. and use the nut to tighten/pull it into the proper position...(also you might need to bend the brake dust shield out of the way

Thanks for all the info guys. Dealer hooked me up and only did a half hr plus parts so i was out the door for like $47. good thing i didnt mess with it. they had to do some grinding and cutting and i just dont have the facilities for it.

hope to get some nice pics of the drop in a bit and ill get em up in 5th gen dropped thread

 

seems strange that they needed to grind it down, i've changed mine for 3 bucks and a hammer.
