P0171 from bad gass, is it possible?

I have gotten the P0171 code twice in the past week or so. I’m pretty sure I got it right after I filled up at the same Sunoco gas station (same pump also). I am trying to decide whether its bad gas before I take it into the dealership. Is it possible?

It's a possibility, as P0171 is "System Too Lean, Bank 1". It is also possible that you have a vacuum leak somewhere that primarily affects bank 1.

Do you also have P0174 (ditto, bank 2) or any other codes?

If your car is a 2000-01 model, then it is very possible that this code points to the infamous MAF failure known to plague these models.

@Norm, no, no other codes.

@oldngivout, yup that's what I was afraid of; I have a 2001 SE with 75k miles. Sorry about that I should have said that in my original post.

Are there any driveability symptoms? Things like surging or other uneven power delivery?

I had my oril changed right before (2 days I think) I got the P0171 code. I also had my belts changed as well.

Is it normal for this code to come and go because it's gone again?

I am having the same trouble with, I guess the MAF? I thought it was gas also and went and bought some bad azz 104 gas for big money. Started knocking on the way home, I was pissed! P0171 knocks, seems to lose power about 3200 RPM also. So, I guess I gotta buy a new maf.
