I have a 2000 5 spd, and I've got a problem that has actually been happening for awhile. When its cold outside, not necessarily when the car's cold, I start it and for a seconds after it starts there's this really horrible grinding noise. Doesn't happen every time, but lately more often than not. It's lasted anywhere from a couple seconds to just a fraction of a second. It's almost like I'm holding the key too long and the starter is grinding, but its a different noise than that....any ideas?

 

starter...thats the same thing mine was doin. took my starter out and i hate teeth broke off it, replaced it, never had the problem since. So i would start there.
