its not the timing chain?

So i thought i burned to much oil and could hear the chain. Added oil. still heard it. Gotta change the oil now cuz its to much(idiot). Feel free to flame at me cuz i am sure its a repost, but what is this rattle noise. only from 1900-2800 rpm(why did i think it was the chain?!?!). Cats? how do I check? VTC?(i wanna know what it is before i replace anything) any troubleshooting ideas greatly appreciated.

VQ30 or VQ35? You didn't say.

Stock manifolds? Have you checked the common heatshield rattle?

sry sry...3.5, thats why i thought i burned a ton of oil lol. a mechanic said he fixed my heatshield a few months ago when it made a noise, but i never checked. should i just shake it and see if its loose anywhere. stock everything but intake. would love the cattman Y-pipe tho...

I keep reading threads of people with a rattle in the front end, I changed my pre-cat and the rattle was gone and i got restored power. As for your car burning oil... good luck with that because the problem is in the engine and has nothing to do with your exhaust system.

precats do make the most sense. maybe if I get the money for cattman's y-pipe i can take care of that and yeah i know its the engine causing the burning..piston rings i believe. at least i'm not like my buddy who brought is altima to a 20$ oil change and they didnt put the oil in....he didn't notice for over 100 miles and now has horrible oil burning. way to put 100,000 miles on an engine in 100 miles
