Strange problem with Auto

Have done a search but can't find any similar type problem. I have a 2003 SE Auto. After doing some pretty good high speed runs where everything appears to be working normal , if I come to a stop say at an off ramp or a light, when I press the gas pedal nothing happens for a few seconds then 'bam' the car slams into gear and off we go. Seems to happen only when I have booted it a few times on the highway or street. All other times runs normal. I know I have to get it checked out...just curious if this has happened to anyone else and what the cure was...other then a new transmission or overhaul.

yea i experience the same thing occasionally. Its like you're trying to accelerate but the car doesn't accelerate and then all of a sudden it throws u back and takes off. All this happens in a very short time...maybe a second at most. It seems everything goes in sync other than my brain expecting the car to accelerate once i push on the pedal
