new motor,clutch,headers and more...

so i had finally had enough of my oil burning engine (which was about 3 quarts per oil change) and decided to get a used engine from Krrz350 and built it up alittle bit before installing it. the engine is from a car which was on the road for less than 1/2 a year before it was totaled, there are plenty of signs that show how new this motor is( oil cooler line looks brand new, we put on my old valve covers[6th gen] and when we took off the covers we found the heads looked immaculate. so before the install i decieded to get some OBX headers and try them out, upon removal of the old cats from the old engine, i found that the rear catalyst material had broken off the wall of the housing and could move up and down about 2 inches, also the front cat had a chunk missing from the top of it(will add pics later). this leads me to believe that this motor had pulled that missing piece back in(from exhaust reversions) and destroyed the cylinder walls.
Krrz350 and i also decided that while the engine was on the crane,we'd throw in some rev up rod bolts so once i get TurboXS Utec i can increase my rev limiter higher than 7200rpm.
now onto the clutch/flywheel part. a brand new 06 350z clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel assembly was ordered and installed. FOR THOSE WHO DIDNT KNOW, this is possible but modification is a must. for one thing, the timing ring on a FWD dual mass flywheel and RWD dual mass flywheel are offset 1 bolt hole, so you have to grind off the dowl on the crankshaft and spin it one rotation. also you have to move the crank sensor over because the fwd timing ring sits almost right next to the block while the rwd is gapped out alittle, so you have to grind into the bell housing and move the Crank sensor over. you must have the sensor right in the middle of the ring or you will run into issues
we also found the the pressure plate hits the starter housing on the transmission. so you need to grind down the housing alittle so the rivets on the pressure plate dont rub.
im still breaking in the clutch (about 100 miles till the break-in is done), and re-breaking in the engine(since it had not run since 03, so i havent really gotten on it much yet, but the low end torque feels alot stronger than before. ill have pics of different points throughout the process soon...

Nice list man, what made you go with the 350Z flywheel as opposed to a Fidanza? Can't wait to see the car in person again.

thats pretty cool man. I have been thinking about replacing my oil burner. It would be a great time to do all of those little internal things I have always wanted to do.

Great, I bet you'll pamper this one during break-in...even though it's probably already broke in! It's really hard to believe that these oil burner were defective from the factory. IMO most folks that bought thier cars new never allowed the engines to break-in before jumping into WOT. Hell I'll bet that some of these ppl were at WOT just after leaving the dealership with thier new ride not realizing the damage they were doing to thier noninvestment! I've had only 2 brand new cars as an adult and a total of 6 cars in the last 25 yrs (since I was 18 yrs), and I've never experienced this with any of my vehicles period...But I've rebuilt many engines and broke in several engines since I've been a kid and most domestics were broke in by 500 miles...imports always seemed to take a little longer and if hard a$$(moly) nonOem rings were used chances are they'll never really seat...Alot orgers that bought thier 5.5 or Altima w/VQ35 used, never really had any knowledge of this period (break-in) of the cars life, so they were caught by surprise with a low mileage oil burner due to the previous owner or owners kids ripping the hell out the engine B4 it was fully broken-in....but good find guy, these engine are really good engines!
