Tranny swap question

Ok, so i DID search and also asked a member abt this .. but just want a little more feedback.

Ok, so this is pretty much a continuation of my last thread abt my 5 speed max leaking tranny oil out of the input seal where the driver's side axle goes in. And the problem has been determined - being that the differential bearing is worn out, causing the axle to have play and causing the leak.

Now instead of getting it opened and rebuilt (well getting the bearing fixed anyways) i thot it would be cheaper to get another tranny and swap it in.

Now heres the tricky part. I found one but it is out of a '96 max.

It is a LSD tranny (canadian 5speed SE model) and people, say that it should bolt up. But they say i need the drivers side axle that will fit the LSD tranny since its a bigger input?

K so the guy who i am buying it off of is giving me the tranny .. and both the axles.

now first of all .. will this setup work in my '00?

and secondly .. people say that the "shifter sits back / or up ???" a little.

what does this mean?

p.s.
i did search and the only threads i could find through search were all related to 5th gen trannys being swapped into 4th gens.. where as i wanna swap a 4th gen tranny into my 5th.

Let me know if it will work and whats going to be different abt the shifter rod

Thanks!

oh and while im in there should i also change the clutch is its worn? any suggestions as to which one?

You just need the driver's side axle.

Swapping the A33 trans in place of the A32 is the feedback you're looking for, just think of the opposite of what they say.

It means that the shifter will sit further back, as in when you go into 2/4/R it'll be closer to the trim, and further away for 1/3/5. I forget which it is, but i'll sit differently unless you swap out those shift yokes.

ohhhh ok .. so its bascially that the throw will be longer from 1st to 2nd etc..

ok well, will it so different that it could be felt and become a nuisance on a regular commute?

and how big of a job is it to swap out the "yoke" u talk abt?

what is this thing .. and will the guy who im getting the tranny off of have it in his '96 that he could maybe thrown in?

No, the throw is the exact same. It just sits in a different position than normal.

Yes, it will feel different.

It's not that bad at all, takes a few minutes, depending on how badly it's stuck on there.

No, he won't have it You take it off of your current trans...

first time dealing with a tranny swap so still learning. haha

but yea. its all starting to make sense now. thanks for all your help dude.

so i guess im gonna go ahead and pick up the tranny and drivers side axle in a couple of days and do the swap. just wanted to be a 100% sure that it will work.

and one more question .. is it gonna drive better with an LSD?
never driven an LSD fwd car before. hopefully its an improvement.

Well if you're "spirited" driver, then yes you will notice a difference. When you go WOT from a stop, the car will pull more evenly as both tires will have the power split between them. If you've stomped the gas with you old car you probably noticed the one tire (probably the right) would peel out and the other would not. The LSD, eliminates this and give both wheels pulling power.
