I think most of you guys need to experiment with the tape because it seems that people think the idea of "tape" will look worse than painting it. Nothing wrong with that, but the tape is pretty amazing, nothing like electrical tape! In fact, when washing, waxing, oil marks from your fingers or any other marks, you just wipe it off with your shirt and it retains it's dusty black look. Bottom line is, you can apply it horribly and it will still look like it was fitted perfectly because it blends so well.

I'm going to play with the blackout tape this weekend to see if I like the look. But that rusty vertical bar in the back seat windows... that really has to get taken care of this Spring. I can't look at it anymore without getting bummed.
I went out and looked at it again. The bar will come out when you remove the trim. I don't know about taking it out without touching the rest of the trim.

When you pull the trim the black rubber comes with it.

FYI local autozone, advance autoparts, and local tuner shop do NOT carry the tape, they do however carry the "trim paint" and one of the employes did the trim on his car and said it workd good, (jus make sure u do a good job scuffing, cleaning and tapeing off.)
so i might try that when it stops raining

Thanks for doing that, Derrick. Very decent of you. I was wondering about the rubber around the trim. This has given me the confidence to pursue repair on those vertical bars.

Whoa! I like that, damnit now another project. Was it hard to get it to where there were no bubbles. Also, is it easily removeable? Does it look good up close and far away. I dont want it to look like black electric tape

Ditto that. I started with AutoZone, then PepBoys, then a specialty trim shop, a wholesale distributor, and a few body shops. I made 6 phone calls and came up empty.

This stuff will have to be ordered online. I guess I'm not playing with blackout tape this weekend Another day, then.

bubbles arent an issue....just flatten as you go along. From close, since this was my first time, you can see the imperfections. I plan on taking off the messed up areas and re-doing the trim. From a far it looks great

It looks NOTHING like electrical tape...this is good quality stuff

The damn bends along the trim really give me a hard time though...

Seeing as there's no buying the blackout tape locally, before ordering a couple rolls, I thought I'd see what it would look like by doing up one whole side with electrical tape.

Glad I did. Didn't like it.

From the pictures on this forum of the black Maximas done up, it looks fantastic. Really, really good. And the on the TE was interesting enough to keep plugging away. But my car is Sheer Silver, and it looked kind of cheap without the chrome... which is a conflicting opinion, because I don't like chrome, (except for tailpipes.)

Oh well. This was fun anyway.

Before going all out with blackout tape, or painting, give the electrical tape a shot, step back and take it in first.
