Are your exhaust hangers okay? They might be stretched out/loose, allowing the pipe to hit the underbody.

^That just might be it. Take it to an exhaust shop and see what they have to say.

Its most likely 1 of the pre-cats. It might be that flex section as well. An exhaust shop can take care of both of those problems for you.

I have a nasty rattle too, has been driving me nuts for thousands of miles. It only happens when the car is in drive and between 2000-3000 RPMs. Took it to the dealership and they blamed it on my broken flex pipe (which I know is not the problem). I am on the order list for a Cattman y-pipe, which should be coming within the next week. I am hoping to figure out what the issue is whenever the y-pipe gets replaced. It sounds like it's coming from the back of my engine though, can't really tell if it's coming from the y-pipe area or not. It's impossible to hear the noise when the car is parked, so I am pretty stumped. Will be taking it to an exhaust shop if replacing the y-pipe doesn't eliminate the noise...

50k miles? If it is the CAT, can't the dealer replace it free of charge under 8/80 warranty? I mention this because my pre-CAT bank1 gave out @ 94k and the dealer stated if under 8/80 it would have been covered.
