Starting problems when hot

I have an '01 SE 5speed. I think there is something wrong with the starter, but I wanted a second (third, fourth, etc.) opinion.

My car always starts fine when it is cold ....however, when it is hot (engine or temperature outside) it seems to have trouble, I can hear the ignition clicking, but the starter doesn't engage....it normally will start within 30-60 seconds of trying (this has been going on for a few months), but yesterday, an extremely hot day, it started on my way out to lunch, but would not restart when I finished eating, and would not start as I tried for as much as 90 minutes after.

It started fine later that evening when it was cool, and it started fine again this morning.

Does this sound like a problem with the starter? Or could it be a switch? Maybe the clutch pedal switch?
