vias delete question

If you delete the vias with a nwp plate will the car throw a code? I researched and found something about the p1800 code. For those that have the vias delete are you driving around with the check engine light on all the time?

You've been around here that long and haven't researched it? It's easily found.

Essentially you lose a little low end, but gain midrange. Once you're off the line, you no longer need low end and the midrange gain is in the power band between shifts.

More power above 3800 rpm. You do get a power loss between 2800-3800 according to the dyno sheet someone posted from an Altima with a VQ35.

I heard about the P1800 code too. I can't have any codes, even pending ones if I want to pass my yearly inspection. Anyone know for sure about the code?

I guess I can always swap out the VIAS assembly each year if I had to.

I felt NO loss at all low end. I did however feel nice gains about 3800 and the short ram intake sounded a little deeper also.

I just recently did the removal on my motor and you can definitely feel gains in the higher RPM. I think I lost a little gas mileage from losing the HP used in daily driving though. I usually was getting 19mpg city now I'm around 18.5-18 average. But I feel the difference in 3rd & 4th gear revving up. I just did the NWP spacers and can feel some gains there as well.

wow... that seems low to begin with. I have NEVER gotten any lower than 23.9 city. I average 31-33MPG highway. Yours seems a little low...

My trip computer shows 30-31 mpg (26-27 mpg doing the math) freeway on long trips (around 72-75 mph) but in town, especially in the Dallas area with horrific traffic light timing (and now major road construction due the new Cowboy's stadium in north Arlington where I live), 21-22 indicated on the trip computer and 18.5-19.2 actual is as good as it gets. You pretty much stop at every light here because the traffic engineers are complete morons.

I've had a block off plate for several thousand miles with no codes. It's not difficult to swap the VIAS back in if you're concerned about inspection.

The only way the code will pop up is if you unplug the solenoid that controls it.

I got ya. I guess I don't drive as much as you guys in the city. The DC metro area is where I do most of my driving and as you can imagine... it's pretty bad. haha

Yeah all of my driving is in stop and go traffic, so that was a question of mine, since I have the block plate can I remove the VIAS tank and the solenoid? Put a cap on the open hole near the where the VIAS was. Here is a picture of what is looks like now.

See that hose that is running into where the VIAS was, that runs into the tank. Which I am assuming is useless now. The tank has another hose connected to a sensor which I am also assuming is useless now.

In the top picture you can see the Tank with 2 hoses coming out of it.

FYI, I live in Florida so I don't care about codes

Ok, just to clear things up a bit here.... Adding the block off plate itself will not trigger the code. Only removing the air lines or disconnecting the electrical connector from the solenoid will.

And the air lines that are still there aren't even being used anymore correct? As well as the tank.

Correct. If you do remove it, make sure and plug the hole, as you might experience a small vacuum leak if you don't.

Took off the connector and the VIAS tank. Looks a lot cleaned up this way especially with that tank off the IM.

Here are the pictures with the NWP spacers as well. I just added those recently.

Here's a closeup of the spacers.

I bought my car with a P1800 code (always pending, didn't trigger CEL). I then got a used solenoid control valve (the small part mounted on the UIM between the cylindrical vacuum tank and the VIAS solenoid) from a part-out for $20, and P1800 went away.

So basically P1800 only happens if you have a problem with that control valve whether it be a vacuum leak or an internal problem with the valve (as in my case).

Actually, if you unplug it, you will have that code too.

Other than that, thanks for verifying.
