HI- My dad had not driven his 5gen in a few weeks. I went to start it the other day and it turned on then shut its self off. When I started it back up the service engine soon light came on. I dont really just want to reset it b/c if it comes back on I will not be here to deal with it, my dad will just ignore it. Any way can you get the ecu codes off a 5gen like u can on a 4gen. If you can how do i get to the ecu and is there a site with the info. Thanks ( and i did use search a lot but didnt find what i was looking for) Thanks again for the help By the way im talking about how on the 4gen you twist the little **** and then the light on the ecu blinks out the code.

unfortunately, you can't read codes off the 5th gen ECU like you could with the 4th gen. You can buy a generic scan tool that will allow you to read codes and measure a wide variety of different operating parameters in your car. Check www.obd-2.com

Is the car under warranty? If so, just take it to the dealer and let them worry about it. They should not charge you for anything. Good luck
