107k miles and you're still using it? Man get rid of that worthless battery and while you're at it get a new windshield as well. Oh and don't forget to buy new lugnuts you never know when the threads might strip and BAM you lose a wheel. Sounds ridiculous doesn't it? Keep the battery and just get it tested.

Mine lasted till about 108k. I would agree in having it tested. Mine was nearly dead and I'd rather not be stranded for something like that. 5 minute stop into my local Interstate store and I was set.

Miles don't mean much to a battery. It's really age more than miles. If you're driving a 5th gen then it's at least 5 years old which is good. Most usually don't last past 7 years.
It's all due to the amount of acid in the battery and how much sludge is in the bottom.
If the acid doesn't fall below the plates the battery lasts longer since youare not cooking the plates. If your regulator is acting up and overhcarging it will cook off the liquid and ruin the battery.
And as part of the battery process residue drops to the bottom. Once that residue rises up high enough to short out the adjacent plates your battery is toast.
I used to work aty the Excide battery plant and we've made batteries last virtually forever by cleaning out the residue and replacing the acid.
If you need a new battery the best for teh price is the Max at Walmart. According to Consumer Reports they are the best for the money.

Make sure you check your water levels and fill as necessary. I went to the gym on a hot Saturday morning and when I tried to leave my battery was dead. That's when I discovered that I had a liquid cell battery. My car sat there overnight while I bought a new battery. The next morning it started right up, using the old battery. I drove home, put in the new battery and haven't looked back.

As stated, you'd really need to test it out. But if it's over 5 years, I'd seriously consider replace it. I've been stranded by two batteries...been lucky both times that I was close enough to home and friends. Also it wasn't after hours so I could get a replacement.
I've also had new batteries fail under the warrantee period and replaced immediately of course. Sometimes they just fail.

Unless you have a freak of a battery. No way a battery lasts almost 10 yrs and 138k. I don't buy it.

Old thread is old but..... You guys would rather get stranded then replace a $50 battery? Screw that. I just had my work truck inspected in Feb. and the batteries test good. Not even a week later they needed to be replaced. Testing them usually tells you what you already know. The car either starts or doesnt. Congratulations. However, batteries will fail without warning. Its happend to me and people I know countless times. Ive had to replace a battery at a convenience store, at lunch. It died instantly on start up when going back to work. I had a battery BLOW up on start up too. It looked like someone put an M80 inside the battery. Ive also had a few month old Optima **** the bed. Point is Ive seen it all.
If its 5-6 years old its well worth replacing it even if all seem fine.
