Major issure with brakes - ABS light on, Odd sounds, Brake failures

Well, it's been forever since I made a post on here, but I am in need of help with some recent brake issues on my 2002 max.

A few months ago I was late to work, and after some "spirited" driving and medium/heavy braking, I went to hit the brakes, and the pedal just went all the way to the floor with minimal brakes. After nearly having a heart attack, I pumped the brake pedal, and some pressure returned to the pedal. I then tested the pedal several times prior to arriving at work, and the pedal continued to go down to the floor. Once at work, I checked the fluid, and it was in between low and full. everything else looked fine. On my way home, my brakes worked fine. Several weeks later, after some heavy braking again, the brakes gave out once more. I took off the wheels, and all brakes have 75% or more pad life in them. So I dismissed it, an just decided to not do any heavy braking anymore.

Fast forward to this morning. Brakes have been working fine all this time. I get into my car, start her up, and the ABS light comes on. Crap. I hit the pedal, and the brakes seemed a bit weak, but they still worked. after driving to work, the brakes still seemed fine, but that ABS light would not go away. Once I was at work, I turned off the car, and then turned the key onto the "on" position, w/o starting the car. I heard something under the hood make a strange noise. I popped the hood, and it sounds like it is coming from the ABS unit itself. I turned the key off, then back on, and it sounds like a pump/grinding/swoosh noise - hard to describe. fluid looks fine.

So here I am. I shut the hood, and I am now writing this, hoping I don't die on the ride home tonight. Other then checking sensors, does anyone have any ideas? I think my ABS unit is shot due to that noise I heard, but I'm trying to convince myself otherwise

Thanks all.

You think I can just pull the fuse to my ABS, and I should be fine?
