Paintin' the grille...need suggestions.

So I've been outside today working on the Max and I decided I'd give her a little bit of a facelift in the form of fresh paint on the grille.

However, I'm at a loss as to what color I should paint it. I was thinking about taping off the outside gunmetal-colored part of the grille and painting the rest black. But now I'm not so sure it'll match the white body.

Any ideas?

Well, I suppose you could pull that off on a silver Maxima...

But white with white grill. Can you say rice?

Edit: I've seen some cars with decent matching-color grilles. But eh, it's just not my taste I suppose.

What I plan on doing with mine is leaving the outside of the grill the same color as the vehicle (Sterling Mist) and painting the inside of the upper and lower grills a satin black using SEM black paint. I plan on doing it this week and will post some pics as soon as it's done.

I have the lustre I started to paint the color of the car. Dont want to hi jack your thread but I'll get pics up eventually. Just painting the bars that go across the 02-03 grill and leaving the black plastic just that. I'm thinking its going to come out good...

I'm thinking I'm gonna go with satin or flat black on the inside of the grille and leave the outside the stock color.

I may also see about removing the longitudinal bars before painting. Not a big fan of 'em.

Pics when I get to working...I'm waiting for the weather to break.

tookrzy: Post away. I'm still open for last-minute ideas.

^ That looks decent, but on a white car, eh... Idk. That and I honestly can't afford the pearl clearcoat to match...

Did you paint the inside of your headlights yourself or are they aftermarket? They look good.

all this grille talk, I cant wait. I finally should have my custom grille primed and ready for paint after patiently waiting 13 months......
that being said I am painting mine to match OEM. I am using layers of Duplicolor Smoke Cast, Chrome, and Flat Black.
Will post when complete.

If you do it right body color looks good....If you rattle can it its gonna look like you spray painted it cause the colors never seem to match right once the sun hits it.... If your painting it do it right and have it painted by a body shop... Otherwise it'll look cheap IMO...

Flat/semi/gloss black all look good on 5.0 and 5.5 gens.

I think body color ONLY looks good on the 5.5 gens.

I guess I'd have to see a pic of a white car with the grille painted to match. I've never seen it, so I honestly don't know.

I know. It doesn't look bad in the sand or silver color. I just don't know about white, honestly.

I guess it all comes down to personal taste in the end.

Edit: If someone has a 5.5 with a white-matched grille...pics?

I would think all white would look good (with white strips, black ring that holds the nissan logo with nissan in chrome...) although it could also be fugly lol. idk white is tough color im sure someone could think of something creative.
