2001 and lower will lose unless they have mods

 

The Maxima (2k2) has the top-end to hang with a Mustang GT but is lacking in the bottom. Torque in maxima is 246, whilst the torque in a mustang is 300. Big difference in torque plust identical curve weight = The max loses unless you have some power mods.

new stang GT 5-speeds are very inconsistant...I've seen some run 14.2-14.3....while others are in the 14.7-14.8 range...

race with a new max would be close...depends on driver...some people just don't know how to launch their car...

 

I ran up under the *** end of a GT last week in my 02. He pulled out in front of me from a Ford Dealership and laid down some rubber thinking he was the man. I got up on his *** and he nailed it again while running around 35 MPH. I saw it coming jumped on it at almost the same time. Before I knew it was right up under him. I flashed the lights and waved before backing off. Had we had more road, I would have made the effort to give him a fly by. At the next light he motioned at me to lower the window and said something to the effect of "I didn't realize those were that fast". I smiled and informed him that they were and we parted ways both the wiser.

 

A race between a last-gen Mustang GT (the crappy 215HP models) and a 2002 Max would be interesting. Anybody try that?

 

I was even with a 2k2 Mustang GT with my automagic 2k2 Maxima stock.

 

No contest. Maxima power

Even lightly modded Accord V6's can occasionally beat the 215HP models stick or auto
