Hey i was just on nissans site building a maxima and was wondering can u get the navigation system and the bose? or is it not possible. Just one or the other.

If you get Navigation then you have to get the Bose option. When you start building out your options there are side notes that say what additional packages you have to get. I know it shows in the brochure but not sure on the website.

Either way it can be done because I have Navi and Bose in my 2K2 SE.

Awsome. Thats what i want is bose and navi. I think the new maxima is the most perfect car for me. in everyway it has everything that i want. stick, hids, bose, navi, great engine.

 

The Bose is a requirement for Nav. but... the difference is that the changer is trunk mounted and not in-dash like the stand alone Bose option. I'm seriously thinking about getting Nav. too but after seeing the detail that Acura's Nav system has on DVD I'm a bit worried that Nissan's CD based system won't have the same level of map detail.

 

Yes the changer does go back to the trunk but if you are not using the Nav system you can pop out that CD and use the in dash one without any problems.

I haven't taken my Max on any road trips to test the overall effectiveness of the system but I think it has pretty good detail considering it is CD based and not DVD.

Quick question. If you miss a turn, does the Nav system automatically recalculate and remap a new route based on where you are, or does it direct you back onto the original route. I don't know much about car Nav systems but the TL we played with did exactly that and it was most impressive. Well, at least to my friend and I.

 

I'd be interested to know the exact difference too. My guess is that you only need one DVD vs. 8 CDs to cover the U.S.

But... technically a DVD can have 4 layers total for 17 gb vs. 640-700mb on a CD-ROM. My guess though is that the DVD-ROM nav system is only dual layer, double sided, giving it a bit over 8 gb a storage -- enough to hold the entire U.S. on one DVD and more detailed cities.

Now that I'm thinking about it, my friend's Lexus SC has a DVD-based nav system, and he does have the whole U.S. accessible without changing discs... but he does still have to pick the coverage area. He can see only California & Nevada at one time -- like the Nissan/Infiniti systems. To see another state, he has to choose a different service area on the map.

 

Well, that brings up another question. Does Nissan's Nav come with multiple CD's? If so, how much coverage is on each disc?

 

Thanks for the link. The pricing is ridiculous. $120 per disc? No Nav for me. Now I really wish it was DVD based.

 

The navi system on the acrua is a 2000 dollar option.

 

I wonder if we can burn copies of our current region CD's. If it works then the people with Navi from the different regions need to get together and make images of their CD's to share with others.

I would be willing to try it out to see if it works. That's a lot cheaper than the $120 a CD.

I agree :-P Once I get this presentation done for school and have a chance to go buy more CD-Rs, I may try to burn one and see if it reads it.

$120 is just a little ridulous... Although I doubt I'll need anything outside zone 1, unless I go to Arizona or something.

hmmm.. I wonder if there's anything on edonkey or Morpheus

 

I have cable modem at home and T1 at work, so it is now just a matter of logistics to trade region CD's.
