Jet Chip

Like a fool I purhased a Jet chip for my 2000 Gle w/o doing any research on this forum first. 15hp just sounded so good!!! I haven't removed my ecu to send back to them for re-programming yet and I'm wondering if I should even bother. Should I go for it and see if it works or should I try and get my money back without even trying it out??

nobody seems to beleive me, i have it in my car and it made a difference. Since sigs are off, you can't see my modifications, but i put it in after my y-pipe and intake. I made a difference above 100 without a doubt.

What is the brand name of the chip? I purchased a Jet (brand name) performance chip from Performance Products for my 1997 Ford Explorer. I did a dyno before and after the addition of the chip, Borla cat-back exhaust, and a K&N air filter intake kit and got a 30 hp increase. Unfortunately, I did not do a dyno after each addition, since I did them all at once. The mechanic and myself came to the conclusion that the chip added to most horsepower (15-20), then the exhaust (5-10), then the intake (5 or so).

Also, there was no programming of the Explorer ECU. This was just a piggy-back add-on to the existing ECU. Fairly easy to install, the ECU was mounted behind the firewall with access in the passenger side of the engine compartment.

By the way, now that we're on the subject... Here's how I computed my hp increase. My Explorer had a 200 hp SOHC V6 engine. The stock dyno was 123 hp to the rear wheels. After the addition of the mods the dyno was 141 hp. You know that thing we learned in school that we swore we'd never use? Algebra? Well, all I did is plug in the numbers and came up with 230 hp. I mean, when someone asks you how much hp my Explorer had I wouldn't say 123 hp or 141 hp. You say what the engine is rated for. At least that's my take on it.

Hope this helps.

Tony

If you have a few mods it should help...15hp prob not but if it makes everything run better it's worth it.
