Safe fix for headlight condensation?

Safe fix for headlight condensation?
I've got some aftermarket headlight assemblies, and before I installed an HID kit neither housing had any condensation (so I assume the seals are good)
I had to drill a 1inch hole in the back of each for the HIDs. The left side was a breeze and no condensation. The right side...a piece of plastic chipped off and the rubber grommet is not air exactly air tight. This headlight gets condensation.
Now my question, is it ok to simply unscrew the back cap of the headlight and leave it off? (For 2 weeks, in rain, this seems to be preventing the condensation from returning)
I would think yes since the housings are not actually air tight anyways since there is a small opening connected to a rubber tube already on there. But I'm a little worried that the bulb might get damaged somehow with the cap off, but then again, I guess it might not be any worse than having constant condensation every time it rains.

well that would be the obvious answer lol However, the chip in the back is an odd shape/size that would require me to uninstall the headlight...which currently has some homemade "anti-theft" devices installed (long story)
But again, Im not understanding why everybody spends so much time sealing up these headlights when there is a designed opening built into them that prevents them from being air tight.
