Can anyone confirm which bolt of the starter is to be connected? The one with the wire connected or not? Aanyone have a pic of their properly working, installed starter?

The bolts don't connect to anything, the bolts just hold it in place.

Are you referring to which stud (on the solenoid) to place the power wire coming from the battery? The one that has nothing else connected.

Thank god you showed up in this thread, I've had a super crappy weekend and this was the cherry on my crap sundae.

Originally, I connected the batt terminal to the OTHER terminal, and it spun like crazy and the solenoid became hot as hell fire. I have since switched solenoid terminals, and now...nothing. I am guessing I cooked the solenoid?

Yea, the other terminal powers the motor when the solenoid engaged.

Did you make sure to hook up the trigger wire?

Checked to make sure you didn't blow a fuse for the B+ wire?

It is possible the solenoid was damaged, I'd take it off and tear it down.

That would be the wire you can see coming off of the starter in the picture. If that wire doesn't get B+, the solenoid doesn't engage, and the starter won't work.

That's another thing you can try prior to pulling the starter, run a wire from the battery to the connector on that wire, see if the starter engages (it should).

Alright, here's what we're looking at...mind you this is not how I had it connected before this dibalce started.



Fuses are ok, or, in my haste, I missed one. If I disconnect the negative, swap the connections to the solenoid terminals, it spins like crazy. So is there something I am missing or is it indeed the solenoid?

Have you tried jumping the starter manually via that trigger wire (when wired up properly)?

Actually, I've never swapped the connections on one of these solenoids before, so I'm not really sure how it would behave.

Something tells me we're about to find out.

Here's what happens:

(1) You open the hood
(2) You detect a burning smell
(3) You touch the starter solenoid
(4) First degree burn recieved

I would wager that at this point in time, something happened such that the connection remains closed. Looks like it's cooked.
