I bought a 2001 max about 3 months ago. Its an SE 5-speed, with the 17" and sunroof. Its got 10.5k miles on it, but it doesn't seem as fast as it should. On the highway in third gear i lose ground to a 2000 max auto from 65-90, a speed where my 5-speed should shine. Are there any Service Bulletins I might have missed? Is it possible that the throttle isn't opening all the way?

I am thinking about dynoing the car to make sure its the car and not me. Where are there dyno shops in long island/queens?

sometimes it pulls sometimes it doesn't.. if you ran on a hot day you'll go slower too..

 

yeah but if he ran against a 2000 auto from 65-90 on the same day,time,road and he lost then something is wrong...maybe the 2k was modded

maybe you were in 5th gear instead of 3rd

autos will pull in second gear really hard all the way from about 42 to 80 while a 5 speed has to shift in that range and if u suck at shifting will easily gain ground on u! learn to shift and try it again!! J/K but that could be the situation since u just bought the car!

 

dirty air filter? bad gas? mods vs no mods? It could anything. Try getting it dyno'd to see if it is really 'slow' or normal

 

Don't feel bad, I pull on 5 speed 5th gens in that area too, and I started out with 32 less HP.

 

My 2k max se had some problems with the coil packs and it would not run for **** when they were acting up.

 

wonder who this person is that you keep mentioning

 

redline 3rd as well whare all your powers is and you can hit about 96mph.

 

So Hes faster?
