Please don't be maf...

Well i'm noticing a week delayed power response in my 1k-2k rpm range. It stutters a little and as soon as it hits 2k it picks up like it should. Are these the signs of a maf going bad? or a week maf? It's ONLY between 1k-2k rpm. No other rpm range.

It might be your cam timing sensors. Had the same issue, threw a SES light. Went to Autozone, and they pulled up a few codes including MAF and CTS.

Two things to look for:

You're using premium unleaded, right?
And...have you used any sort of oil treatment recently?

Even if it is the MAF, it's not the end of the world, you could have problems a lot worse than that. It's money well spent. And you can buy an 01 MAF and swap it into your MAF tube on the 02 (cheaper, by a mile)

Yeah, but heres the thing i forgot to imput, There's no ses/cel. I am using unleaded, and no oil treatment recently. Planning on doing a oil change however today, and a spark plug / gear fluid change tomorrow.

When I replaced my MAF there was no SES light either. It doesn't always trigger the light to come on.

Before you do anything else, go to Autozone, pick up a can of CRC MAF cleaner, and try that. There's a write-up on how to somewhere here on the org. If you have a filter that requires oiling (which I'm assuming to be true because you have a Berk intake), some of the oil may have attached itself to your MAF.

And AEMAX:

I know it won't always pull a SES. It turned out for me that when I used oil treatment, some sludge blew through the crank and caused it to run rough for a while. (Also threw an SES light after a while...)

Needless to say, next oil change, the oil was disgusting.

I heard the crc maf could actually cause even more damage to the maf? Usually people use it though once their maf is almost gone though since they have nothing to lose, or at least thats what i've read up on. The rpm range isn't a drastic "i'm gonna go crazy if it's not fixed" problem but it's just a small thing that annoys me, car still pulls pretty damn hard. Probably just is about a second or two off normal. Is it safe to use the crc maf cleaner w.o any possible side effects?

That's exactly how my car was when the CTS "went bad." It would idle rough, run kinda funny through 1-2k RPM range, and then above that would smooth right out. And it still pulled like a champ.

As far as the CRC MAF cleaner, I haven't had any issues with it. I use it every time I re-oil my air filter, just to be on the safe side.

First off...stop using the term unleaded, its a useless term.

You didn't identify whether you were using Premium, aka 91 or 93 octane.

Second...for the $5 you spend on CRC MAF cleaner just to try and see if that works or helps, is worth it. If your MAF completely fail then you get a new one for $70-80.

If that doesn't work you go from there to figuring out what is wrong.

91 premium, always, at least since ive ownedd the car. so 5 days. Ive filled up twice. I wanna hold off about another few fill ups to see if that helps, hopefully the old owner wasn't stupid enough to ill with 87/89...

These cars are technically fine for daily driver people to use 87 octane, there is nothing wrong with that, at least there wasn't till ethanol was introduced. We all just say use 93 because its a bit more appropriate for this engine and since most of us have Base timing advances (15* to 17*).
