nwp spacer ?
nwp spacer ?
ive read a couple threads saying that these spacers add a substancial amount of power. i am however skeptical of this. i don't understand the theory behind them and how a 1/4 spacer could make a noticable difference. is it just the decrease in intake temps? could someone try to explain what they actually do since the website has no information about them. that i also found a little odd.
Like seriously....this was on the 2nd page of the 5th gen section

Every 10 degree drop in intake temperature improves power by about 1%. 40 degree drop equates to a 4% increase in power, which on a 255 hp car is a touch over 10 hp. Not to mention the thickness of the intake spacers lengthen the runners which increase intake velocity which improves torque and throttle response.

well there is also info on the DE-Ks now also... there might not be as much gain as the VQ35 because of the DE-K's plastic type intake manifold but i think there are spacers now made for it and it proved gains on the dyno... someone correct me if im wrong
The real pay off is the difference in deeper sound.

The physics are sound, and Aaron has an awesome rep here... it seems a slam dunk mod. What I'd like to read is a collection of testimonials. There are some in that 700+ thread, but it mostly chronicles the development. It would be nice to see some long-term assessments all in once place.

I've used carburator spacers when I had my Chevelle and they definitely made an improvement in the midrange and throttle response. Similar effect that the intake spacers give with the added benefit of heat reduction.
I created another thread for you to post your impressions after installing the spacers:

That 1% gain for every 10 degree reduction in air temp... for background, where'd you get that from, Scott?
Wow... TMI. However, you have my sympathies on the discomfort and the bills.

It is generally accepted that for every 10°F temperature drop of intake air, an engine will gain 1% more power.
Not specifically from this link because it is a pretty standard accepted fact in the automotive industry, but here you go:

Outside this forum, it seems like the Ford Mustang is the big market for phenolic intake spacers.
Anyway, if you install those spacers before I do, I want to read about it here on the org somewhere. Good luck.
