CD player sucks..
CD player sucks..
I have tried to search for some help. My 6 disc changer has never seemed to work properly. All the cd's will skip as if they are scratched. I do have the Bose headunit. On my 98 Max, the radio quit as well. Is this common or do i have bad luck. I found somebody local that will rebuild mine with a 2 year warranty for $185.00. Is this me best option. Sorry if this is a repeat thread....
I think every 5.5 gen radio should be recalled. I can bet that all will fail within the lifetime of the vehicle and not due to any other reason than being a POS that's defective from day 1.
Mine works.....when it's really hot. It can't even play at idle b/c of the vibration (motor mounts). You can bet I'm gonna have fun smashing that POS and worthless "sub" when it gets replaced. What's bad is that it worked good for a while, then just crapped out. Same thing on my '02. And now it's starting to cut out.
I'm thinking I should go with a pick axe...

New stereo + Dash kit + Metra 70-7551 wire harness is your best bet.
I had the BOSE headunit for awhile, and I replaced it with an Alpine CDA-9833 for ~$180. It sounds great, and I barely tuned it. Made the stock BOSE speakers sound awesome, much better midrange and highs, it's got 4V preouts so my sub sounds so much better too.
You can hookup a CD changer to 99% of the Alpines out there, and all new car stereos have iPod hookup options.
If you have any more questions, feel free to PM me. Or check out the audio section.

i have the factory bose 6 disc in my 02 maxima se and its awful!!! speakers work great with the stereo but if i put n a cd n hit a bump driver side speakers cut out sometimes all speakers quit! but it never happens with the stereo only on cds.
Oh boy, My brother has been threw 4 5.5 Gens. Only one never had this Problem. all the other 3 did. mine doesnt Because i Upgraded to aftermarket. Its because "Bose Cutout" but My Advice is get a Pioneer DH7900 Used are going for 130 or new 180ish . Bluetooth with Surround sound. Cant beat that.

there is an internal bose amplifier in the car. you can see it next to the subwoofer in the trunk. So no, you can't just hook up an aftermarket deck. You have to buy an adapter that will convert the signal so the bose amp can read it properly.
Exactly what I thought. What adapter would I need? Thanks for the clarification......
Here is something you may want to try. I have seen others on here say that it fixed the problem for them, but I never actually tried it myself. I just bought a new head unit...

You may also want to consider purchasing one of these, so that you can keep your steering wheel audio controls. The model is dependent on which brand of head unit you get:

By the way...if you are going to order a head unit online, I highly recommend Crutchfield because they will give you a ton of stuff you will need if you're doing the install yourself (including the Scosche adapter) for free.

Bose System Sucks, from an insider
Alright Honkies,
I work for Bose. I have an '03 Maxima. The head unit is worth more as a stress reliever than it is an actual piece of sound equipment. The problem with Bose is that their components (car, home, and otherwise) are contracted out to different companies. They make the speakers, which work great for a factory system(in my opinion), but the disc drives and electrical equipment are made, typically cheaply, by other companies. The disc drives in the home theater systems, for example, are made by Toshiba. They're okay, but they're not the best on the market, by any means. I don't know who made the disc changer in the 02/03 Maximas, but they were junk.
I fought with mine for two years, and finally just replaced the friggin' thing for my last birthday present. I got the JVC El Kameleon w/necessary adapters from Crutchfield.
Don't ever bother having it repaired/replaced with another factory head unit. Get rid of it. For the money spent, you're much better off getting an aftermarket head unit. Period.
God. Just replying to this makes me angry, reliving all the frustrations I had with that thing...

the first change i made to my car when i got it was the audio. I have a 2000 max with the bose system (well until i ripped that ish out) bose is one of the best factory systems you can get, but lets face it the stuff that comes out of the factory sucks compared to aftermarket
I got fairly lucky...I had mine changed twice under warranty due to the left side speakers cutting out, and it looks like the third one was the charm. I never have problems with CDs skipping, or anything else...and IMO the sub is pretty damn good. It seems to have gotten muddier over the years but that's understandable given its location (speakers don't like UV rays)
