Guys I replaced the gas cap as is common, reset the ECU and the SES popped back up today. Called the dealer they said it was the autozone gas cap???? Said I really should replace it with a nissan part because of the teather and possible seal issues with the off brand caps?
Does this sound legit or do I have an evap canister issue?
edit: quick update guys, it may be the gas cap, I just went out to the car and the new gas cap was lose...tightened to 3clicks...still lose...this cap refuses to seal so I am going to try a dealer cap.

Try new cap first (cheaper solution) If that doesn't work its probably your vent control valve on the canister. Easy fix.

That I was leaning towards until I found this cap didn't tighten at all...I'm going to swing by the dealer tomorrow and pickup a new cap...Originally Posted by jr schultz

Do you have any links handy on how to repair/replace the vent control valve?
This is so annoying SES comes back a month before I'm going to sell the car

Terrible luck/timing...owell...hard to complain this car has been flawless for 3+ years other than the SES for evap issues.

Went by the dealer today, I'll clear the ECU here in a few minutes, then drive a few places tonight and see if the SES stays out.Originally Posted by Mizike

Vent control valve is attached to canister on the driver's side. It's just forward of the rear bumper. The valve is held in by 2 screws that may or may not be rusted in. The valve is on the front side of the canister. I had one screw break, so I had to drill it out. Its not too hard.Originally Posted by 6SpeedTA95

I've replaced the gas cap with an actual nissan cap and cleared my ECU. Only made two trips but so far no code. And I will say this nissan cap actually tightens like you'd expect and stays tight!
So I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this fixed the problem and my car will be good to go. I plan on selling it between now and the end of the year to get a different vehicle and I need to make sure any issues have been corrected, so I'm hoping it was this cheap gas cap
