5th GEN Automatic blues!!

5th GEN Automatic blues!!
I have a 2001 Maxima GLE 4AT. I just got cleaned by a bone stock SOHC Prelude and he told me I need a manual transmission so I can be fast (you know those Honda guys, idiots)! So how do I do it? I would prefer the 5.5gen 6sp, but if it cannot happen, then the gen appropriate 5sp will suffice. I know I need the basics such as transmission, pedal assembly, clutch lines, master and slave cylinder, blah, blah, blah. The real question is what about the electrical issues that I will meet? The transmission mount should be different, so I would need that too, but is there anything else. I would like complete part list as well as any helpful instructions/walkthroughs that any may know of. Apparently after searching this forum, no one has done it, but I don't buy it. You are out there somewhere. Help me out!
-Note the racing reference was just for entertainment. This just cannot happen! But I am sorry.

Dont sweat it.. Nissans are still far superior to most Hondas on the street. Which are usually poorly modified accords, civics, and in this case, preludes.
Always nice to blow by, just to remind them there not the fastest on the road...
But anyway, in response to your question... if you are planning to do a full Auto/Manual Trans swap good luck. Search the internet, its a PITA. Better off saving your money unless you plan on keeping your car for a very very long time.

Well, for the time being (a long time being), this car will be here for a while, and getting another car right now just cannot happen. The parts will be accumulated over a period of time to space out the costs, so I would like to attempt the swap. I found swap info on a 4th gen(?--95 Max), but am not sure if the info pertains to me (similarity?). Any help whatsoever will be greatly appreciated.

Jime (world's fastest Maxima) is 4AT, like yours.
Now I'm not saying you'll run 10s...but maybe keeping the auto trans and doing headers/exhaust/nitrous will let you wipe any Honda off of the road. It'll also be easier to install
Keep in mind that a new valve body to make you shift quicker and a trans cooler would keep your AT under control (especially during sprayage).

not to say maxima's arent the ISH cuz they are... and ive had a 2002, traded for my 05 s2000, and bought another 2002 for daily driving....
so now i have a toy and a daily driver...
i wouldnt go as far as the maxima being far superior or alot faster than every honda... i know for a fact my 2005 s2000 when it was NA would pull from a all bolt on 5.5 gen Maxima/Altima...
I'm turbo now *twice* and its definately a different animal...
On my 5.5th gen, she's a 4 speed... Doing the VB mod and full bolt on's is a good thing to do if you dont want the hastle of doing the swap......but to each his/her own.

Hey I want to do this swap too. I have pm'd a few guys who say they did it but nobody has responded to any questions yet.
I definitely want to do this as I love driving stick and only bought my 4AT because I got a steal of a deal from a friend, I wouldnt be driving such a nice car otherwise.
I want the extra control of a stick and am willing to do whatever it takes to make this happen. If anybody has any info on how this is done/ parts lists or a rough cost estimate/hours that would be very helpful
Im with you man, do the swap, but only if live for the 6spd. dont just do it to be faster, thats not a good enough reason. You would be better off to boost with turbo/supercharge. Im sure the cost is close to the same but the speed gains would be much more intense.

There are a couple shops that do performance upgrades to the Maxima A/Ts along with custom stall converters and black boxes. A company in Jersey does this but I can't remember their name or find them now, but ran into a guy at a meet who used them, and his otherwise stock AT 2000 SE would be tough to beat in a holeshot against a stick. Just a thought....

These are the parts you will need to do the complete swap without issues in the future... but good luck finding a 5spd transmission. I also want to do the swap but after searching through 16 junk yards I only found 1, and it was going for $1,000.. good luck though =]
