The MAF and I
The MAF and I
Throttle body and MAF issues can be inter-related, but can be isolated I hope.
Here is my story:
Yesterday morning I came home from work (the car drove fine) I stopped and hit reverse to get into my parking space (I'm a front forward kinda guy). I noticed the car felt and sounded ridiculous all of a sudden, anyway I've been up all night busting my butt at work so I said fu@k it, I'll deal with it later, may she just need some gas and some engine oil (yes she's an oiloholic). Got up 1.5 hours later drove it, bucking and stalling to the service station, gave it what I thought it needed, problem got worse...luckily there is a mechanic shop thingy on the side of the gas station and the mechanic dude noticed my dilemma and offered to pull my code for a price of course. $30.00 later I'm told it's the MAF, I drove it bucking above 2K RPM and stalling at idle RPM to the dealer...the kid at the parts desk says "I can cut you a deal at $561.00 plus tax, we have it in stock and if it's not the MAF we can't take it back because it's electronic so you need to have it properly diagnosed which will cost you but you'll be certain". So I stumbled outta there, groaning. I'm broke man, I just bought an engine and gearbox for this thing, which goes in next month, not to mention hoist and tools needed to make this happen. I make some calls to the aftermarket boys, and closest junk yard...$250-300 and two days wait (not acceptable). The Advance auto guy, determined to make a sale suggest I try that CRC goop...I bought it washed it down let it dry right there in his parking lot, now it's revving, but it's still not idling...so now I'm certain it's the MAF. Go back to Nissan, charge the card, replaced it right there in the yard with the Nissan techs eyeing me (musta been lunch break), put the old one in the box and drive away, go down the street, got the code cleared, didn't do the idle relearn ($100.00) because 's idling just fine. Anyway after the engine swap I might take there and have them do something simple so they can tell me "ALL" that needs getting done to my "Maxine"
Stupid post but I had to get it off my chest!!!

Glad you got it fixed. So did you pay the $500 something for a new MAF? You know you can buy a MAF for an 01 from Dave B for around $90 and just swap the sensor. Hope you didn't spend that much....
I work at Johns Auto (auto recycler) (junkyard for most people) in minnesota. I was having the idle issues, shifting issues with my 00 Maxima. i bought a Reman here at work (we are an Oreilly store also) $85 my cost. The one I got is the updated one with the thermister and everything on it. Put it in. Feels like a brand new car.
Anyone needs anything shoot me an email jeffh@johnsauto.com or call 612-369-5685 and i'll do what I can to help out or find it close to you.
