Need help disabling factory alarm.
Need help disabling factory alarm.
I have a 2000 gle. i have an Aftermarket generation alarm. The problem is that every few days the factory alarm wont disable when the other one is and goes off when the doors are open. I have to carry the stock key fob to turn it off. Is there any way to disable the factory alarm?
Depending on which aftermarket alarm you went with (mine is a Viper) your stock alarm system can ( or should have been by the installer) hook in to the aftermarket system, as it now becomes the primary system and the factory on is like a back up. I have had no issues with system activating or disarming. I would go back to who did the install as it sounds like they have screwed up the wiring.
Our factory Keyless/alarm quit working, dealer wanted a bunch of cash to tell me it was going to cost a lot more cash, so I added an after market keyless entry w/remote start. It was professionally installed.
Now however, for no reason, the factory alarm will sound at random times, key in the ignition will not disable it. I am still searching here for a solution, but if it is as easy as pulling the factory alarm fuse, let me know, thanks!

Whoever did the installation did not hook up the "disarm" wire as they should have. There is a module under the dash called the "smart entrance control unit".
There is an orange/blue wire in one of the harnesses attached to it. This is the factory disarm wire. If that wasn't connected by the installer who did your aftermarket system, then you'll end up with the problems that you're experiencing.
Here is a picture of what I'm talking about. The DISARM wire is the one you're looking for.

As the alarm wire is part of the system cutting it would be sensed as tampering and would probably shut down your whole car ignition system, so personally I wouldn't recommend cutting it.
Look under the dash of your car. There should be a wire tapped onto that orange/blue wire mentioned above. If there isn't, then your alarm system was not hooked up right.
If you give me details as to what type of aftermarket system you have, then I can probably guide you through a permanent solution without cutting anything.
01GLEMist, I just googled that picture as a quick reference. All information on it is perfectly accurate. I've installed alarm/starters on many maximas before so that's how I know.

The system is an AUTOPAGE RS-600. We don't live in an area where I need the alarm, I would like to simply disable it. I did not see a fuse labeled alarm...
The system you have doesn't have to be an alarm to need that orange/blue wire.
Do you ever lock your car without the remote? IF you do, then that is why your stock alarm is arming. If you lock the car using the lock switch, then as soon as you close the door, it'll arm it.
For a SIMPLE solution, you can disable the stock alarm by unbolting the hood sensor. It's a push-button type thing sitting at the driverside headlight on the top of the rad support. Just unbolt it and let it sit inside the engine bay somewhere....but make sure you leave it plugged in. Doing this will prevent the stock alarm from arming, and therefore solve your issues with it going off.
