Dumped Axle back, With vids

Welll, mine was rusting through and the one that came with the car was ugly as sh%^. So i'm planning on buyin a new cat anyways. However I thought i'd try this out and honestly, After trying it I don't know if I still wanna purchase a Catback lol. No main cat, no resonator. I'll get rolling video tomorrow. I personally LOVE it. Reason for a new cat, the one on there is rusting through BAD.
The whine in the video is what I believe is my Alternator.
Lemme know What you think.

I think you'll like it right now but after awhile, it'll get old and you'll want to put the catback on. It sounds good but just too loud IMO.

It doesn't sound bad but as a DD it would suck, it sounds great with basicaly open headers but I definatly wouldn't be able to deal with it all the time.

The sound actually doesn't bother me...yet.. If anything it's just gonna make me use up more gas considering The louder it gets the better. haha. Already did that a few times. Damnit...

It's a good way to heat up the fuel in the tank, especially with the backfires under the car. Hope there's never a fuel leak.

Here's my concern, I was driving today and was thinking of back pressure. Should I have anything to worry about with just removin axle back? Only thing left Is pre cats.. No main cat, no resonator. RPM drops slow after coasting in gears, I believe that's a way of telling I do still have good back pressure. Correct?

I have a cutout where my main cat was...Sounds exactly like that. Tough and mean! Too loud for daily driving though. If you want to keep that sound/performance with a catback then put a 2.5 inch cutout in the spot where the main cat goes. You can open or close it as you wish to get that sound.

Also i've found that the "whine" isn't the alternator. I Actually had the top 2 bolts of my intake manifold (where it connects, 4 total bolts) were off! one completely came off and fell out, I couldn't find it and the other was on the verge of coming off=/ Now i'm riding with 3 bolts rather than 4, The gasket was loose also causing my car to whine letting air out. Now to find another bolt. Anyone have the exact size of it? It'd save me the time of going to home depot or lowes and looking around.

Anyone for both bolt size and back pressure concern?

As far as back pressure is concerned. At the track saturday I did some experiments. I ran on motor with the cutout open and closed. I consistently ran faster by a mph or 2 and quicker by a couple tenths with the cutout open.

It seems to flow smoother for me threw out my rpm range. However my question being, I shouldn't have to worry about not having enough back pressure right?

IMO i would go with a hi flow cat and a magnaflow muffler using larger piping maybe 2.5'' or 3'' and get a hi flow resinator to keep the rasp down that i would think would give u the deep tone

Although I have never done it myself, I know I have read some threads in the past with a similar dumped exhaust, and more than one person said they had issues with brake lines getting a little hot/melting.

Just something you might want to watch out for.

If anything mine's cutt right after the axle back bolts. Only thing it MIGHT heat up would be my tank. Other than that it's completely facing opposite air flow of any lines. Hopefully driving often and less sit and idle would make sure that's never a problem. My main worry is back pressure.

Yes, if the complete axle back is removed, the exhuast pipe points straight into the brake lines, and fries the fluid. You will lose all braking capabiity.

After a while it will start to melt/burn the insulator under the carpet in the trunk. It does not smell very well when that happens and scares the **** out of you cuz you think the cars on fire.

Coming from experience or stupidity. Could be both I guess. ;-)
