I was thinking of getting a Broadway mirror. I heard that they are supposed to be really good for field of vision.

Be careful taking if off though cause you might crack the windshield. I was going to get an auto-dim with the compass feature, but I was too scared I'd crack the windshield trying to take the normal one off.

yeah.. but..

if you were to swap an OEM mirror for an OEM mirror, the mounts should be the same, no??

I'm interested at that price. I *assume* it only needs power.

Wrong brand. The auto-dimming mirror in the Maxima is from Donnelly and sells for more than that (sorry TimW )

Here's the install instructions. You can see if it will work on a 4th gen or not:

hmmm... Actually the one I saw on the 2k1 Max AE at the dealership was a Gentex (the same one on lovecars.com) because I checked before I ordered it.

Perhaps the 2k2 uses the Donnelley version... I'll have to check mine. Either way, the Gentex I installed on my 2k Max, and whichever one is in the 2k2 i35 work exactly the same (except the i35 has the compass). But the auto dim works the same.

The wiring is pretty simple. On the Gentex, one wire goes to switched (+) power (which you can grab out one of the wires on the back of the fuse box that's switched (like the cig lighter). The black wire goes to ground. There's also a (white?) wire that can be run to your reverse light to turn the auto-dim feature off when backing up -- useful in a lighted garage. I didn't hook that up as it seemed like too much work.

The bullet on the windshield is the same size on the Gentex and the 2k Maxima... I dunno about the others. But you do have to be careful taking it off. There's a spring you press against to get the mirror to slide off the bullet. If it doesn't come off easily though, DON'T FORCE IT. The windshield cracks surprisinging easy if you place to much force on it there. There's also a trick using heat to get the old bullet to fall off, but I've also heard that can crack the windshield as well.

If it doesn't come off extremely easily, I'd run the wires yourself and take it to a windshield place and pay them to swap the mirrors for you. I can't imagine they'd charge that much (either that or get a really low deductible on your car insurance first!!)

They work pretty good if you don't have a dark tint on your car, it doesn't if you do.

It is more noticeable when you don't have any tint, but it is still nice now when I have an illegal darkness of tint.

I don't know how I drove at night without one before. I just wish my side mirrors also dimmed like the Lexus cars.

i just don't understand ....why you want to put a broadway mirror, when you have a better one that dims...its stupid.

you know...you can always make the dim mirror a regular one by pressing that off botton on it...no problem at all. I think the mirror is fine, no problem seeing...its alright

I just wish again like IceY2k1 said if the side mirrors also dimmed..taht would have helped a lot. Audi also does that btw

The Broadway mirror shows about 50-75% more view than the stock one. Auto-dim is cool for night, but for all driving, the Broadway mirror shows you more of what's behind you. Of course, at night you get 50-75% more glare with the Broadway mirror

Has anyone else noticed that when followed by someone with hyperwhites then the autodimming mirror doesnt dim that light?????
On mine the mirror does great when "normal" cars are behind me (turns their lights greenish) but with someone with HIDS or other extermly bright bulbs are behind me the lights doesnt get dimmed and is kinda blinding???

Just wondering if it is just me or if others have noticed????
