Cattman 2.5" vs 3" or others?

Im trying to make a decision about which exhaust to get... Im buy cattman headers and probably one of his catbacks too. Anybody have experience with these? is the 3" worth the extra money? Or, would you recommend a different exhaust, custom 3", megan, greddy.....

I thought 3" would be more for a car with forced induction? I thought you would lose too much back pressure for it to have any gains with a n/a engine.

thats what the thought was at first, understandably so too, until actual tests was done, actually makes for better power... i guess the thing to do was to get a slightly bigger piping to add to HP gains and i guess if oem piping was 2.25 then its fit to do 2.5" because of that whole back pressure theory, but i guess with the 3" back pressure is still there so is power

Why a single... for a sweet sounding 6th gen, 3" B-pipe with 22" resonator and stock tips (stock tips looks good already on the 6th)

Cost for getting a custom exhaust done $300

Cost for Cattman $700

just food for thought

22" resonator and a custom piping
and it should sound suttn like this, granted he's using a 2.5" custom... to be sure you can run a 26" resonator

3" has been long proven to be great for all VQ engines. I had the 3" on my 3.0, and there was a huge difference

Im thinkin bout getting rid of my B-pipe. Will 3 inch make a diff? Im keeping stock muffler cuz I dont wanna be all loud. I have one cat left and will get rid of that as well. Will 3 inch B-pipe make a diff on stock muffler considering the bottleneck will be where the rear section bolts up?

I'm afraid if you keep the stock muffler your gains will be dramatically less. Get a Long Magnaflow muffler and a LONG magnaflow resonator...it will will keep the noise down

If I get the 3inch B-pipe and use stock muffler temporarily, do I risk blowing up the muffler? Ive seen org members blow up their muffler and wonder if doing this if I will be at risk...

I've got a 2.5" Cattman catback exhaust system in which I ran at the track and honestly I so no difference between the Oem muffler and the Cattman muffler when running the 1/4 mile.

ya I dont think you get any difference with just exhaust unless you have headers or ypipe.... I think stock header is only 2.25" or so

Without knowing anything else about the OP's combination, 2.5" is a little on the small side - and 3" is about the same amount too big. I think the 3rd generation Camaros actually did use 2.75", which would also be a valid size here. But it's not common.

So it'll come down to the type of driving. For mostly lower rpm driving with relatively minor mods and no serious racing, 2.5" is adequate. If you're WOT at high rpms a lot and make significantly more power than stock, go with the 3".

Edit and FWIW, I voted 'other' because I rate creativity and custom work a lot more highly than "checkbook engineering & modification". Build your own.

Norm
