Depends on what you'll use it for...it'll be fine for a DD, but I'm willing to bet you shouldn't invest in camshafts...

Buy it. You can sell the car as parts and you will make profits!

You can get a used engine and tranny with under 100k miles for 1200-1300 dollars. I can put it in for $600. You'll have a descent car for under 3k.

Wow i will so buy this, $1200, just buy a new DE-K motor for $650 freighted to ya door and you will have a DE-K with a fresh motor for less than 2K... can beat that... i might be coming out there now lol... $300000 is way more than expected for a car, money well spent there, i think there is a guy in the DC section with a 4th gen over 300K also

buy it for sure! looks nice and the price is right. worst case u need engine/tranny in a few yrs or so.... worth it way worth it. even if there is wear on other parts none of them would be that expensive, still worth it. hell if I lived near that car I would snap it up for a parts car

yea, heres my issue. Im 18, and in college. I have a job and i have money, but i have no support. The biggest issue is my father, hes got no faith. he said " ide b f-ing nuts to buy a car with that many miles... ive got a car right now thats fine theres no reason to invest in something else." ect ect.

yea i admit u are a tad young, spend sometime on here and you'll see.. i started with maxima's at 18 also, if explained well im sure he would understand... but i guess its whatever ur ppls say, or is it??? if it aint, just go out on a limb on this one, for the price, getting all misc stuff would be like investing in a lower mileage one which u would probebly still have to get the same misc crap lol

Im 18 and bought my 5.5 a couple months ago...I had to have the radiator replaced too. Dont rely on your parents. If you have the money buy it, its only a thousand bucks.

to the OP- it sounds like the situation you are in would not be great to buy that car... you might want to consider an older, lower mileage car. Maybe an older altima/sentra or a toyota or honda those last pretty long. I had an accord I got for 1500 when I was young and it had 300xxxplus KMS (200xxx miles?) and ran great, didnt need anything. I also got an old corolla later for 500 and that lasted a long time with minimal maintenance. Wait till ur a big time player like some of us in here and then u can roll with a lower mileage max and enjoy the VQ power... in your position I wouldnt buy a car that needs any more maintenance other than brake pads/rotors and an oil change, u'll just be asking for trouble

I would too say buy it...Only if you can afford to replace the engine in the next two or three years! We all had high mileage hand me downs at one time in our life and there's nothing wrong with that. If you can maintain the vehicle yourself to avoid the high cost of repairs with the stealerships or local repair shops, I would do it! If I had to buy it I would, I don't think you're gonna find a low mileage 2000 or 2001 or a 00-01 for under $4000 anyway! I think 300,000 miles (highway mostly) is a good thing but the other little things will be the culprit such as electronic solenoids, and switches will be more of a nuisance than anything else since these cars are going on 10 years old. The other positive thing is...It's a freaking Nissan which are built to roam the highways and bi-ways for years and years with ease...Most Nissan engine are designed to provide 300,000 miles b4 even a rebore is needed! My 86.5 D21 Hardbody is alive and kicking with it's 333,000 mlies and still clicking...Just turn over 100,000 on my 03 A/T Maxima and runs like it's still brand spanking new!!! Vq30 and VQ35 are awesome engines...So good luck with your decision

Damn, thats a lot of miles. If your current max is good right now, I see no need to upgrade. There has got to be wear and tear on the bushings, suspension, belts, etc etc. I'm curious to know how that thing drives.

yea thats alot of miles. But, ever look at the odometers of those crown vics, or lincoln towncars?

There was one at my mechanics the other day and the ODO was around the 800,000 kms mark. So, 500,000 miles? And that shieet was still in service.

So, Ford > Japanese cars? haha

Those cars have barely evolved over the past 15-20 years. Ford has not changed the design. Same goes for some gm models. Old technology and old designs, just make them more reliable over the years - no innovation. They are complete cash cows for ford since ford spends very little on r&d for the crown vic and related models (grand marquis/towncar). They are still body on frame and if you ever drive one, you will see how much wasted space there is. But the frame is solid - like real truck-like suv solid.

Compare it to a Ford Taurus, taurus is 9" shorter, has better specs, more options, similar space capacities.

yea man, suppose you are right. The less complicated things to go wrong on a car, the more reliable it is, and those fords are the definition of basic transport. Unlike our complicated *** Maximas.
You gotta admit tho, being basic and simple has its upsides. Which is exactly why my next car is going to be a new edge stang. Same 4.6 V8 that they've been making for years, in a fun RWD chassis. Mated to a 5 speed of course.
