Is it because of the front? I personally like the 5th gen SE black taillights than the 5.5 gens.

Are you kidding?? The 5gen and 5.5 are so similar... if you like 5.5 you can't really say 5 is the ugliest one.... so:

5.5 best ---all others in the middle --- then 5gen???

wtf u must be blind because they are practically the same, except headlights/taillights they are pretty much the same looks wise.

no contest 5th gens are the best looks max to date besides the 7th gen and that even debateable at times since not everyone likes the new 7th look (but i do ! lol)

6th gen i would think is faster.. but it looks like a parachute.. cant be good for aero-dynamics LOL!

oh i ment 5th/5.5 just so no one gets confused... theyre the same damn car.. tell a nissan guy you prefer the 5th over the 5.5 or vise versa and they should slap you.. diffrences are the front bumper/grille and front and rear lights... the actual cars shell is the same.

Front bumper on the 5.5 is better, grill is better, front emblem is better, HID headlights come stock and look better. 17" rims came stock on all 5.5 gens. Center console looks better. 5.5 gen had TE and ME editions. Rear emblem is better, taillights are better, especially the 03's.

No they are not, and thats just the looks. Take into consideration the engines... Big Difference. That added features, like heated steering wheel, auto down passengers window, auto open sunroof, better quality leather, 6-speed option, HLSD, and many other improvements.

I own a 2003 and I would never buy a 2000-2001. I am not saying the 2000-2001 is ugly, it is just the worst looking of the maxima's.

And back to the debate on weather 5.5gen vs 6gen about which is faster...

6th gen really has 20hp more that the 5.5gen.

Nissan rated thier HP about 10hp to high on the 5.5 gen.

However I think my 5.5 gen 6-speed is faster than my 6th gen auto, not by much though.

On my way home from work this morning I noticed this car riding my bumper, literally inches away so I switched lanes to let him pass...it was a 7th gen. It looked like a ship going by. That's the ugliest one I think.

But keep in mind that the 5.5 was way under rated in the torque dept as well........ That it why it gets off the line so well. Also take into account that it is 300 pounds lighter...

I like my 5.5 so much I got a spare engine and gearbox prepped and waiting. Next year I think I'm gonna get a 350Z. The 02 will be my beater and the Z will be my chill car. My kids are grown man. Yaaaahhhh!!!!!!

I think the 5.5 has the worst looking lights of all the Max's (chrome with the amber).

6th gen fronts have too similar the look of the 08 09 Altima's but does have the luxury feel.

Best: 5.5 with 5th gen AE/SE tails
Or: 2k AE/SE with 5.5 headlights

I'm not a kid anymore either, and I did not enjoy test driving the 370Z. The rev-balancing downshifter was pretty interesting, and the car handles like a go-kart. To each his own, but I don't think you're going to like it. It was cramped, awkward, blind and impractical.

Beautiful to look at, though.

The 370Z costs more than I'm willing to shell out, I'll stick with the idea of a 350Z or the G35 coupe...which I test drove and it felt great.

well though i do believe 5.5's are still the fastest, i must say, not as much 6th gen 6spds even tried breaking 13's stock and you really are probebly the only one to come so close (congrats and yes it is an accoplishment IMO) but its not even close a comon thing for a 5.5, so i must ask you, show me another 5.5 that has done it

If you do get the 350 try to get an 07 or 08 with the HR engine, you will feel a difference in get up and go vs the prior years.

I think if you compare the 6 speed cars, the 5.5 gen will be quicker due to the weight advantage. If both are automatics, the extra weight of the 6th gen is mostly offset by the extra gear in the transmission (why oh why did Nissan stick us with a 4 speed automatic when the Altima got 5 gears?) so it might come down to who gets the jump, plus the extra gear should give the 6th gens a slight freeway advantage due to our really looooooooooong 3rd gear.

The 5AT was optional with the A34's and only the altima SE-R's got it.
