Engine Covers

I know the A33Bs have the grey VQ35 Engine covers while the A34s and beyond have black covers. Personally i find the black ones more sexy.

Question: where to find a black cover?? And of course it'll fit right? i mean its the exact same engine.

On that note, here's one of a few threads regarding it:

Here is a link to get one. It is much different than a 5th gen but it should fit fine it just covers more of the IM but the IM is the same on both the 5th and 6th gens.

Col Ronson, but don't you have an I35? You don't wanna put a blasphemous Nissan cover on an Infiniti engine!

That looks tight!!

To the OP, I run a 2002 Nissan Quest black cover. Just a side note, the black will eventually fade. If you want the finish to last, I recommend painting yours with high temp paint. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah, that bolt is nasty, Infiniti Guy.

Run those bolts up against a wire wheel attachment on a grinder, then spray them with stove paint. That's a real easy fix for rusted hardware like engine cover bolts.

You guys are forgetting something: they're just bolts! I'm sorry but I wouldn't waste my time cleaning off a bolt that no one is gonna see except me - but good advice to those who do. And you don't wanna see what my engine cover looks like now after I took brake cleaner and carb cleaner to it in an attempt to clean off spilled oil, lol.

Well, all that is true, but you took a picture of it.

I saw a picture on this forum the other day... some kid was all proud of the job he did cleaning his headlight lenses. And although he did a fine job on the plastic restoration, there was this 4 inch area of rot and rust on the hood right next to them.

So now that you've dumped brake cleaner on the cover, let's see how it looks after you clean and paint it.

There, you've got a mission now. And don't forget the bolts.

If the guy is particular enough to be concerned about the grey cover vs. the black cover, he's most likely not going to want rusty bolts holding it on.

Personally, the first things I notice when I open the hood are the rusty engine cover bolts and the rusty radiator support brackets. Sounds like the same fix that Rochester suggested would work for the radiator brackets as well.

lol, I don't wanna get too OT, but yeah, if someone does plan on changing the cover simply for aesthetic reasons, it only makes sense to have clean bolts. But then you can't stop with just the engine cover & bolts...you gotta make the whole engine bay clean....it's a never-ending story.

I was just speaking in my case about the bolts - rusty bolts don't do me any harm. As far as that picture...man I took that when I first got the car and was all trigger-happy with the camera. I think I'll keep my cover dirty - wanna try to cure my bump steer/poor steering first!

Yes it will. Good call. Real simple fix.

I don't know what's up with the design/paint on those radiator brackets, but they rust out on nearly every Maxima. Just grind them down and paint them. Done.
