vias block plate, intake and throttle body spacers questions

I will be changing my plugs before winter and would like to do these mods.
My biggest question is at work I can make all kinds of stuff in aluminum or steel. So.... Could I make any of these things myself?

Ive been searching around on here about gains and pros and cons of these mods and will probley do it when I do the plugs. But the block plate looks VERY easy to make and im sure I could do the throttle body spacer as well. The one i would not tackle is the intake spacers. So if I would do this

Could i just make the block plate and the throttle body spacer and be done, not do the intake. Is this ok to do? What will the pros and cons be.

02 se mt6... mods... Custom or homemade intake and greddy catback

Thanks for the help everyone!

dont be such a cheapskate. The guys at NWP have tested thier products and they work. If you homedepot your own thats just ghetto. Maybe you could start a new mod though... GBP mod and GTBS mod... ftl those things arent even expensive...

But y pay for it when i can just take the drawing to work and program it into the cnc and its done. It may not be exact but we can hold our tolerance to about 2 thousands so I am not worried about fitment issues just pros and cons to the car and performance.

Do it yourself, have fun, and save your money for a mod you can't do yourself. The plate should be easy. I know a guy who made one out of clear plexiglass. It looked cool and worked alright but wasn't rigid enough. I pulled mine, cut the butterfly valve off with a hacksaw and vice, plugged the hole with a $1 bolt and called it a day. It took an hour. You can do better.

I bought the spacers and they seem to add power. I felt an improvement. I'm not so sure how much power gain can be attributed to cooling the intake vs. increasing the volume of air in the system. The intake gets pretty hot despite the spacers. Maybe you could gain power with aluminum spacers. You'll need longer bolts though and you don't want to strip anything.

Good luck.

the guys at NwP have alot of R and D into their products that they design for us, so dont expect to cut out some spacers reguardless of your current technology available to you that perform and dont leak, now the block off plate.. sure..take the old one off to give you the demensions with the bolt pattern and there ya go..machine it up...on a side note..the manifold spacer IMHO is the most important one.. the main thing they do is reduce the manifold temp's thus reducing the air temp into the engine.. and well .. the rest is horsepower

aluminum spacers and phenolic spacers are two totally different things. dont expect to get any change in temperature with aluminum, thats what the manifold is made from already. the VIAS block off plate though you ought to do yourself, i made my own and happily spent the savings on the spacers set

ok thanks for all the input!! I think i am going to make the plate and buy the spacers.
I guess my next question is can i run with just the plate and no spacers? pros and cons of this.
And does anyone have a write up the plate installation and what i have to cut out. Just want to make sure i have a good understanding of what i am about to do here.

Again thanks for the help

did you make that??? if you did thats some good looking work... i agree, you can make the block off plate... but to the OP, seeing that its $40 you should just save yourself the hassle... i like to do things myself too and i consider myself cheap due to my budget but both the block plate and spacers i would definately buy from aaron... great guy and great products

According to a dyno sheet I've seen of an Altima with just the block off plate, there was a 10 hp drop between 2800-3800 rpms and 10-12 hp gain from 3800 rpm to redline. Under 2800 rpm, there was no change.

I believe NWP has the installation for their VIAS block off plate on their website.

Yeah i saw that, but i was reading on here that you have to cut butterflies out and a little shelf in there or am i confused with something else?

yes I made that plate, I didn't see the point of paying someone a huge amount of money for a fancy shiny plate to stick on my dull pitted ****ty japanese aluminum intake. Took me about 15 minutes to make it. I started polishing it then realized it was a dumb idea. When I am ready to install it I will drop it in a bucket with some deanodizer to give it the same finish as the manifold
