Painting side skirts
Painting side skirts
I have a pair of side skirts that are painted black and I want to paint them silver to match. What is the correct procedure?
I plan to:
1. Sand/scuff/dull the black paint
2. Then prime and sand
3. Then base coat and clear coat
4. Buff with rubbing compund if necessary
Does this sound right? Is any sort of adhesion promoter needed? If so, before or after the primer?
Sorry if this seems basic, I did a search and didn't find much info other than paint shop prices and recommendations.
Thanks in advance.

2001i30, I just finished repainting my front bumper, and I would go ahead and try to paint the side skirts yourself first. It is so inexpensive, if it does not meet your satisfaction, you can always use a professional painting as plan B. I was glad I did it, but if I needed a main panel repainted (anything but front bumper, rear bumper, and side skirts, then I would go for the professional job. There is a lot of good info in the thread “Chipping Paint ?’s” (post #17 shows my results). Good luck…
