The Definite LED Lighting Reliability Thread

Alright, there's plenty of threads about LED upgrades for interior. I'm talking about plug and play kits, not custom like Metal Maxima and the likes. This is about LED bulbs for corners, parking lights, license plate lights, courtesy lights, The Dome light, map lights, and the like.

Every single thread I've seen regarding lights, there's always some mixed opinions regarding realibility. Always some people are like "oh, burnt out within a month" or "flickering" etc. Obviously the guy who just installed them is all psyched about his mods so he'll praise the lights as if he just invented sliced bread I'm looking for a little bit more of a long term review of the lights.

Are you happy with them? Did you end up replacing them seventeen times? Do you regret getting them, etc.

Oh, and regarding about the pole, please only vote if you've had the lights on for 6 months or more. This is regarding reliability.

Led's for over a year and no problems. Make sure all soldered connections are good make sure you use the right resistors, and buy them from a reputable place you should have no problems.

the technology is improving rapidly. The newer smd's are really cool, I put a couple of smd boards in my trunk. Looks like I have a small sun in my trunk now. LOL

I have LEDs in my clock for 2 years with no problem. And now have LEDs in my dome, inside door lights, outside side markers, and licsence plate for 8 months with no problem, but holding my breath since also read that they don't last.

These were all stock LEDs from here:

I've had a full led exterior lights for over a year now with no issues. For the interior I've had no issues either except for one 194 bulb that one of the smt started to flicker but I had switched it from my parking light when I got some brighter bulbs, but those were over a year old, so I realy don't consider that a reliability issue, just age. I just finished my led interior with map and vanity leds. Suprisingly the maps lit right up with no rewiring at all. I think as long as you get them from a reputable manufacture you shouldn't have any issues. I get all mine from V-Leds and they're a great company to order from. If you plan on ordering from them you can use COMMANDER15 coupon code for 15% off.

I've had mine from VLED's off ebay for around 2 years now... the rear ones started acting up about 4 months ago when the body shop replaced my rear bumper...they freaking glued my corner lights in so I can't replace the bulbs now without removing the bumper so I haven't had a chance to. Anyway, now the left rear one is completely out, and the right rear kinda flickers sometimes from bright to dim. Most of the time it's just dim, though.

wow, so far I'm surprised of the result... I've read in several threads how their lights failed after about a month.

Corners, license plate, and door panel leds all flicker, dome light stays on just a tad bit due to low voltage going there at all times.....

otherwise my map lights are the ****!

I had one that wouldn't glow unless the door was open, but I upgraded and the new one glows a tiny bit when the doors are closed, but since it is blue i don't notice unless I look right at it. (which is basically impossible to do while driving.)

I've tried LED bulbs in the car before.
- License plate bulbs: blew within a week. (autolumination.com)
- Sidemarker bulbs: started flickering with 2-3 weeks. (jlevisw.com 6LED bulbs)

Since then, I've gone back to the Polargs for my sidemarkers, and well... the license plate lights have gone custom:

I have led tails and first had trouble with the whole load equalizer mess but once I figured out haven't had any problems and they light up nice and juicy red with my clear tails. Considering replacing turn signals at some point just lazy. But as mentioned before make sure your connections are solid had a wire come loose on the equalizer and blew a fuse and shorted some of my lights. So be careful also Autolumination is a good source for Led's

I have LED's in my side markers and license plate lights from v-led's since December. I've only had one problem with a one of the license plate lights not lighting...but I tapped the light and it came back on. It hasn't been a problem since (I think it might be a little loose because of how the bulb sits and the fact it could work loose over time when closing the trunk lid).
