Just as the title says, Has anyone painted their own polyurethane lip? I know the prepping part is the hardest part, and you also need paint with flex additive in it, but just wanted to know if anyone has done it and do they even make spray paint with the flex additive?

I'm not sure but I just ordered mine today, did you install yours? I would imagine they make the spray paints with the flex additive.

yeah i installed mine i just used the screws that came with it, i put two on each side in the wheel well and then double sided tape on the inside....

were you nervous about putting it on. I feel it I do it Ill screw it in the wrong place. How long did it take you.

no i wasnt nervous at all man and it took me about 5 min all I did was drill the two holes where the screws were going to be and then drill the screws in thats all there is too it man...

If anyone knows would black bumper paint work?? That seems like it would have some sort of flex additive in it.

go to Napa, tell them you want a can of spray paint made up. Tell them the nissan paint code and tell them you want flex additive. Not sure how much it costs in the states, but up here in Canada it is 20 bucks a can. takes them about 20 minutes to whip up a batch for you. You can even ask for the clear coat added in or buy that separately

I believe it is in the engine bay on those cars, on the firewall.

Yeah when i come in i can show you where you paint code is. and find out if NAPA can do that spray can thing. every where i went they wanted you to buy a minimum of like 20 cans

I just installed my stillen front and rear kit but I'm gonna suggest that you may at least consider shopping around a few body shops to actually spray it though. The nappa spray paint can could be an option too but I think it would be difficult to match the paint to your aging paint without a noticeable difference. Depends what your looking for though cause I see alot of people on here who choose not to even paint the kit...So budget in mind I would shop around a few local body shops for a quote if possible so the kit matches and paint doesn't flake off when the kit bends or moves but paint it either way in my opinion. By the way if your cars black the kit looks great, I think it made the car look way more aggressive.

I know a member who has done this. If you are good at spray painting it will hold you over until you can afford a professional to do it for you. As for prepping, I think you need some comet and some scotchbrite pads. Scrub the hell out of the lip until there are no shiny bits left. Primer/adhesion promoter and spray away. Not sure how well this works in the states but a lot of us up here have gone this route even for touchup paint. Just make sure they put the flex agent in there.
I used a special urethane paint for mine ages ago that worked really well, but the color did not match the car.

scrub, sand, adheason promoter, sand then primer, sand then color, sand and clear.. did this to a friends rear lip for his sentra.. hasn't had a problem with it..

yeah im painting mine black so I wont have to worry about matchin the color of my car, I have a theme going with my car so thats what im painting it black....and yeah im pretty good with spray paint so I might see how it comes out, it cant be that bad.

what grit sandpaper is best??

either 400 or 600.. you don't want to go any lower then 400 or else it will just scratch the s**t out of it and look terrible.. i used 600 for that lip.. just make sure that everything is sanded and there are no shinny spots or else the paint will peel and crack off if bent.. use a adheason promoter like bulldog or something like that then sand down again to make smooth.. smooth equals no orange peel.. when the paint looks like the skin of an orange.. not good..

O ok thanks for the advice i think I about got it now...im gonna give it a shot prob next week and also see where I could possibly get some paint from with that flex additive. any suggestions?

so your lip came black so why do you want to paint it? or do you want it gloss black?

well its just that black polyurethane and it gets ashy and yeah i want it gloss black.

umm i'm not sure about where to get the flex additive but ill be buying some paint tomorrow for my S14 so i'll ask them and get back to you tomorrow about it..

a friend of mine has painted his whole bumper with the carquest stuff. Looks really good. you can also add clear coat if you want
