K&N Drop-In Filter worth it?

I'm toying with the idea of picking up that $50 K&N drop in air filter for my 01 Max. I don't feel like going all out and ripping out the whole airbox for something better, so I thought the drop in might be something to think about.

I realize the gain in power is probably a few extra hp at best. Should I bother? Anyone have this filter?

In the long run its better becuase its cheaper than replacing paper filters every 15000 miles... The HP gains aren't really that noticeable, but its a great filter and it goes 25-50000 between cleanings

I agree with the other posts.... It is worth it if you're not going to go with a Stillen or JWR Pop Charger. Here's a place where you can get it cheaper than $50...

Get it from Autozone. It only cost 39.99

Yup, local parts store should have it from 40-42. No shipping or waiting

If you want more of a gain in hp search for OSCAI or ooglie cold air intake...costs pretty cheap and will increase the power gains from the K&N drop in.

Hmm have you installed the OSCAI before? I see that the instructions seems real easy.... just like a pipe hanging there.... where does the pipe leads to? will it suck up water and dirt? if so wouldn't the filter get dirty faster?

Depends what part of the country you are in for Auto Zone...cost me 49.99 at my Zone in MA.

I haven't really noticed too much difference....mileage is about the same..does make a little different noise when punched and feels a little quicker off of a stoplight. That could all be in my head trying to justify the 50 bucks though

I bought the K&N panel filter just because its better flow then stock and cheaper then replacing the paper ones. If you want more power then this really isn't the place to go. For power get a Place racing CAI.

As for where to buy? I got mine used for $20 or so. The filters are good for 1 million miles. Plus it seems that alot of people get them then move on to a better intake system. Because of that there are alot of them around. Hit the for Sale section and get yourself a deal on one.

Nope, but I intend to sometime. The hose hangs like a foot behind the front of the bumper under the car, from what I've read water doesn't really get up the hose. Some people had some water in their airbox though..
