H+tire+rim=22690.67 or 22.691 Kg/49.92lbs

This seems to be a weight loss that would be not worth the effort.
1/2 lbs at the wheels at best, remove your spare tire at the track and you would see greater performance gains.

My .02
the original argument still (made by dmbmax88) that they are all the same weight is still wrong. the explanation proved it wrong...performance gains at the track wasnt the main point. so the piont was still proven nicely that they all do not weigh the same.

Man that is outragous... even the most heavey Neepers in the last sport compact car wheel guide only weighed about 35 lbs. I can't complain to much. The 17" dealer accesory wheels for my car cost $3k. Although they are extremely light.

The 50 lb weight represented the rims and tires. Tires are pretty heavy, probably a little over 20 lb's.

So what's a good set of relatively inexpensive 17-18" rims and rubber weigh? Places like Tirerack don't tell you how much the rims or tires weigh.

Steve, then why does a balloon filled with Helium float and when you blow a balloon with you own breathe it doesn't. Helium molecules are lighter.

35-40 lb's is probably about as leight as you can get for 17's rim/tires. I use to have some 17" Chrome Epic wheels and with tires they only weighed 42 lb's.

What do a set of 17" or 18" Magnesium forged, or other lightweight, rims cost? I read about some rims in the 17 lb/ea. range. Any idea?

I'm looking at SSR Competition 17x8 rims for my 2002 when I get it. They weigh 13.1lbs and cost $375 each at tirerack.com. I've posted a thread in the General forum looking for feedback on them. They are the lightest 17x8 rim that I could find. For the price, weight, and the positive things I've heard about them I don't think you can go wrong on them. I'm not sure what they're made out of to be honest.

Steve,
You're not too far, but your memory in this case, is not accurate. Gasses do not have the same density they have the same amount of molecules at the same temperature and pressure. There are 6.022 x 10 23 molecules of any IDEAL gas at sea level, and room temperature. That's what a Mole is. However, since Hydrogen has a molecular mass weight of around 2 (it exists as H2) and Helium has a molecular mass weight of 4, Helium is twice as heavy for the same volume. They are relatively light, however, in comparison to most gases.

Volk rims weigh around 15 lb's each for 17 inchers. They cost a lot though.

In that case, lose the wife and get the rims.
