Who has a NWP VIAS block plate on their 5.5 gen?

Zelinski is enthusiastic about his Maxima. (Aren't we all?) Don't take it personally. I think the MPG info is good to know.
Group hug, guys.
Yeah, I'm pleased with all the good feedback, too. I am definitely doing the VIAS-delete when Winter is over. And I'll be buying Aaron's nicely polished plate. That, and his Torque Link.
Until then, it's something to look forward to when the snow tires come off.

but dont you want all that extra air via viasdelete now when the temps are cold
jk.. i know what you mean about waiting... winter,.. im trying to delay putting my snowtires on ..im hoping 2-3 more weeks down here..good thing im a skiier to make use of the snow

There is a hill by me that I keep wanting to see how my car pulls on it at higher rpms but at a 20 mph roll, I light the tires up big time. Compared to my Dad's '04 V6 Accord, up that hill, my car wasn't pulling much past 5500 rpms while the Accord pulled right to redline. I figured this would be a good test of any power increase from 5500 to redline. Problem is, I can't get the power down without wheelspin. Tried holding it in 1st gear thinking maybe the drivetrain shock from the downshift makes the wheelspin worse, but apparently that isn't the case. As soon as I punched it, my tires started spinning and I bounced off the rev limiter in 1st gear.

Only problem is cold temps mean cold streets.

I think you're both right. I run Goodyear Eagle F1's off-winter, and they have amazing grip. (Well, I don't have HLSD, so off the line I'd have to say "it" has amazing grip.)
But I feel for you, Scott. Wheel spin is going to hit me real hard in 2 days, when the steelies and Blizzaks go on the car.
I used to get nasty wheel hop, but that disappeared after ES Motor Mount Bushings. Completely, totally gone. I haven't experienced a single moment of wheel hop since. Now I know that's not the exactly the same thing, but your tires will spin more easily if the engine weight is momentarily lifted, which is why I'm bringing that up.

no worries byrdman! Im not trying to bash you... Just sayin if your concerned about mpgs I probably wouldnt bother modding the car. I just get all hyped up when I think of all these power adders and how great they feel, I couldnt give a hoot about mpg because this car gets way better mileage than I expected when I bought it, so I dont mind if it guzzles a little extra.
Winter tires ftl... I have nokians on since I bought the car and drove them all summer. My front tires are bald and rears are pretty much still brand new. I have to say they are completely useless on the 1/4 though...

I had some feedback today from Aaron (NWP Engineering), who markets this VIAS-delete mod with his block plate.
You need to retain the VIAS Solenoid in order to not trip up a SES Code P1800; just leave the electrical connection plugged in, and put caps on both vacuum leads. (And obviously on the vacuum source at the end of the intake manifold.) However, you can get rid of that big fugly vacuum tank.
[edit] As long as the IM is capped, there's no real functional purpose to capping the solenoid leads, except to make sure no crap gets in the solenoid.

Bumping this thread with my own review. First props to Aaron for his service! I bought a used plate which did not come with the vacuum cap. Quick e-mail to Aaron = two caps and NWP stickers shipped for free to my house
Install was super easy following the instructions. Immediately after I noticed (maybe placebo) slightly better throttle response, slightly louder engine growl, and smoother revs.
Driving around town and/or hauling 3 passengers the low end torque loss was not as bad as I was expecting nor as bad as having a short ram intake. Mid range torque suffered a little which can be felt going WOT at ~40MPH, not as "punchy" as before. Top end is hard to describe, since VIAS is gone there is no longer that extra surge of power at 4,100rpm. Now the power is linear past 4,000rpm to redline so I can understand where some people might not feel any gains. If anything I'd say I did gain some top end power but my favorite part is the linear power delivery.

Nice review, n3985. Thanks!
I wonder if that feeling described as "linear power delivery" on your Infinti would be the same on a 6MT?
Either way, I like reading things like, "better throttle response" and "louder engine growl". I'm still waiting for winter to end before doing this, but you make patience difficult.

The bump above 4000 is there too, but the slight drop in midrange probably makes it feel like an even bigger power gain than it actually is. Automatic upshifts right before redline (6400-6500) means I am staying above 4000 rpms in the next gear so the car just keeps on pulling. Before the block plate, my car was upshifting at 6000-6200 rpms and I could feel a half second power drop right after the shift before my car starting pulling hard again. Not sure why the car is now shifting at higher rpms at full throttle since the block plate but I'm not complaining. Anyone else with an automatic notice this?
#142
Another member on here, Ghost, mentioned to me that after we installed my home made block late that his automatic seemed to shift at a different RPM. He also said the car pulled much harder at the higher RPM's.
I think the effect on a 6mt will be even better....

Like you Scott I also drive an automatic, and as Ray said I have noticed a much improved engine pull. At normal half throttle the car will change gears around 4500, but driving at 30mph and flooring it the car will up shift around 6400-6500, the pull is quit exhilarating at the gear up shift the rpm drop back to 3800-4000 but the car maintains a very strong continuous pull and just flies through the rpm spectrum again until your ready to say ... was that a black and white I just passed! ... I have not experienced any drop off in the pull when the gear change takes place like one would with the VIAS installed (although minor) The tac simply resumes its rapid climb as the car sits right down as the speed continues to escalate.

Yes! Please do that. That would be a nice add to this thread. (My name's not Roy :-)

Some more feedback after a road trip this weekend with 3 passengers and full trunk of luggage. Before my car always felt like it lost steam after 80MPH, but this weekend accelerating from 60-115MPH (in Mexico of course ) was effortless. Although I still don't "feel" more top end power, the linear delivery and the ease of accelerating into triple digits now proves to me the VIAS plate is a worthy mod.

i know this thread hasn't been used in a little while but I have a question. No one really talks about using this on the 6spd. Questions have been asked about it but no answers that I have read. I drive my car 45 min to work every day in which I am constantly passing people to get to work part for fun part so I'm not late. The low end is what allows me to launch at a light behind someone to pass them right after the intersections. My question really is how noticeable would the loss be on my car considering I choose when to shift? Yes this mod does look cool but If I will loose enough low end it wouldn't be worth it when I could put the money towards a diff mod. I try and keep my car around 2500 while Im not trying pass someone to make up what little gas I can from flooring it so much.

I'm pretty sure the VIAS-delete low-end loss is negligible for a modded car.
And looking back on this post, you're right that most of these cars are automatics. I think Knight_yyz and myself are the only 2 in this thread with a 6MT. And I haven't done the VIAS-delete yet; I'm waiting for Summer. I don't think Knight has done it yet, either.
If you wait until May, I'm sure to have an opinion.
So you have fun passing people while racing to work? That's kind of funny, because I have fun messing with the people who race past people on their way to work. It's the little things, you know?

I have used a VIAS deleted manifold on mine, and am about to reinstall it.
Between stock and VIAS delete, you can feel a small loss in peppiness from around 1500-3000, but beyond that it's all gains. Both the gains and losses are pretty small, we're not talking headers here.
Also I daily drive my car, and noticed no loss in gas mileage or driveability. IMO it's worth doing. The midrange/topend gains really are nice.

edit: my N/A PB was done with a vias delete manifold. I had a SSIM for almost a year got got rid of it in lieu of a vias deleted stocker, before I got the Kinetix.

EDIT: just saw your post,... another fail for the kinetix N/A ? huh...

thanks for the quick replys mine will b short cuz im on my phone at work. I mainly worry because my max has no performance mods. All I have done so far is replace most of the lights w blue leds.... add a system...yellow top batery....regrounded my engine.....and added a high pressure collant cap. so far all I've been doing is moving what little parts I can from my 96 max that I completely pimped out and crashed. I was planing on getting the spacers, torque link, and block soon but only put the block on for now. I would add the spacers once I needed new spark plugs. I will be getting my greddy catback moded for my new car in a few weeks and adding a rear sway bar.... ohh I almost forgot I have a front strut bar on as well. the main point is for now I would be runing only with the vias delete and worried about daily driving w out any other mods.

KJS2023, don't discard your VIAS after the mod. If you don't like the effect of the delete on an un-modded car, then simply put the VIAS back in place and do up the delete later on when it's more appropriate.
I know reading back in this thread, that Scottwax is happy with his block plate, and his car is basically stock. The point is, give it a try. No harm done.

Dammit Rochester thanks to your thread I have another freaking part coming in the mail!
This modding stuff is getting out of hand! In all seriousness I'll report back on my findings once I install it. BTW 02 SE with a slushbox.
