interesting find while adjusting headlight aim

I know this topic has been posted numerous times and I am not trying to bring something up that's been talked about for many many times. I have 01 maxima, and when I was adjusting my headlight after HID mod and lowering, I noticed there are two bolts with 8mm end in the upper inside corner of the headlights. I have called around different nissan dealership, as well as check out the full service manual. I did not find anyone or anywhere in the print that knows exactly what they are for. They can be turned both ways but they cannot be tightened or loosened, and I did not notice my headlight aim changed either. Just wondering if anyone has an answer to that.
Thanks.

yeah, the only thing that I get is that: "they might be clipped in" but my thing is why would they make the bolts out of metal if they are just clipped in. AND they have Phillip pattern within the 8mm nut end? hahahaha maybe I'm just over thinking

well, this is the picture. I know the picture is a little bit over exposed and I know my rubber shield is not completely on. BUT the point is that little bolt inside the circle on the lower left hand corner of the picture is that one i'm talking about. This is my passenger side headlight.
I guess I don't have the right to add attachments... any idea on how I can show you guys the pictures? hahahaah

Where did you load it up to? if you used photo bucket it is normally the fourth linking code it should start with
you copy and paste that code into the message box here when you reply.

If its an 8mm that turns, i used the same, not the "phillips". It does indeed adjust your headlights. Do it 2 night and aim your lights, right highers, left lowers. It takes a good bit of spinning before you notice any real difference. But if you do it at night you will see your beams highering/lowering. @ least if this is the 8mm you're talking too on headlights...

Yeah, I know the one that adjust heights, it's on the lower outside corner of the headlight unit. That one I showed in the picture seems to me that it doesn't really do anything when turning clock or counter-clock wise. I am just amused at what it does. Because as of now, no one can tell me exactly what it is not even the dealers themselves. It may be nothing more than a placement bolt, that does nothing but clipping together the lens and the back unit. hahahahaha

Maybe they wanted the headlights to look more complicated than they actually are

To to make matter worse, I just realize my right side headlight is aimed toward the middle of the car not straight ahead. I'll post some pic later to show you guys.

OK after some soul searching...... err........ not really just some free time.
This is my right headlight with the aim toward the middle of the car that I was talking about.
[/IMG]
My normal looking one left.
[/IMG]

So the mysterious bolt that I was talking did indeed adjust the aim left and right. I hope you guys can see it. The 1 bolt is the height aim, and the 2 bolt is the horizontal aim.
[/IMG]

So after adjusting, the lines are even now.

Wondering about a certain bolt

Hey, this is the only post that could possibly help me I guess. I'm a little new to the Maxima world and was trying to put some new headlights in and can get 2 bolts out, but can't seem to find that 3rd one. I know I'm missing something that's right in front of me.

I don't know whether you have the 5 or 5.5 gen, but for 5 gen, there are two bolts at the top where you can see very easily. Then there are two clip in anchors: one on the bottom of the headlight unit and the other one is on the side of it. After taking out those bolts, gently wiggle the whole unit side to side until you hear it "pop out".

Sounds like what I have. It was either I didn't look carefully enough or they didn't mention in mine. Either way thanks for your help.

US DOT has no provision for horizontal aiming. Maybe because there is a JDM (and maybe European - I don't know) counterpart for the Maxima - there is an option to horizontally aim adjust our headlamps.

I don't know why anyone would ever need to do this notwithstanding discovering this "mysterious" bolt.

Well, it was an accident that I turn them so my horizontal aim was off. but not that I figured out what they're for. I just adjusted back to where it should be. Regarding Us dot provision for no horizontal aiming.......... well, dunno why 01 has it.
