Race with a.....NX2000??!?!?!?
Hey everyone...back from another racing adventure. I got behind this NX2000 and it looked like a ricer...exhaust, stickers and all that. So of course we went at it from a stop light. Up to about 60 we were dead even, and after that I pulled on him, but not like I should be on a redone Sentra. By 120 mph I only had about 2 carlengths on him....are the NX2000's actually fast? Or did I discover a sleeper...????
By the way...I have a 2K 5spd with SI and Y-pipe, and yes, I know how to drive.

About the NX2000
Actually, those little suckers were fast. They had the SR20DE engine (SE-R), making 140 HP and 132 T. Granted, that may not sound like much, but for a car weighing in at a little over 2400 lbs., that is mucho grunt.
They were rated around 7 sec. 0-60 and the 1/4 in the mid 15s around 88-90 MPH.
They were a sleeper to begin with, and with a few mods, that engine could really move it. With the design the weight distribution sucked (63/37 F/R), but they had small size going for them.

1993 NX2000:
2.0 L 16V DOHC I-4 (SR20DE)
140hp @ 6400 rpm, 130 ft-lbs torque @ 4800 rpm
2500 lbs or so...
sure it wasn't turbo'd?

I bought a '92 NX2000 new, and have been driving it ever since. The new Maxima I have on order will be my first new car since then, and it took me a long time to decide to pull the trigger and buy a new car since I loved my NX so much. I used my car in Solo II for a few years, and it absolutely ruled, after I got half a season's worth of experience under my belt I always won my class.
Mine is totally unmodified, but it quite often makes people with cars three or four times as expensive look foolish at a stoplight, and the handling is unbelievable once you throw some decent tires on it. It's got a bit of low-end bog, but if you rev to 3k or a bit higher and walk the clutch out you can get a heck of a jump on people. At one point, Road and Track rated it one of the top 15 best production sports cars in the world, right along 'Vettes, Porsches, Ferraris and similar ilk. I think it actually held the R&T 600 ft. slalom record for awhile as well.
I live at a mile high, so it has some breathing problems at higher speeds. I've had it up to 130 at this altitude, when it was newer. It pulls hard to 110 or so, 110 to 120 slows down a bit, and beyond that you'd better have a long stretch of flat road if you want to see the top end. It generates a ton of downforce at speed, you can actually feel the car getting more and more stable and squatting a bit as you go faster and faster.
At any rate, it's a quick little car that stays a lot closer to the big boys than people expect. I'm not looking forward to getting rid of mine.
