Watch idle also, as it drops from 650-500-400 in this video. This all started when this "whine" noise suddenly started. Ruled out p.s and alternator. Any ideas?? it's REALLY getting annoying. It seems to be coming from around intake manifold area...

Any help is appreciated.

Wow!!!... That is an annoying high pitch whine. I was gonna suggest spraying the belts with some belt dressing to find out if it's coming from them, but the noise doesn't really seem to follow the rpm's. Hope somebody can pintpoint the source for you. Anything in particular you remember happening when you started hearing the noise?

I bought the car, and a month down it happened. stopped on it's own, on the way to the gym this morning" whhheeeeee" and FML all over again. Nothing i know of.. It's not a vaccum leak, it stays on actually when u press gas it gets a lil louder but the sound of the car drones it out. Sounds like it's coming from the intake manifold.. I just dk if anyones heard this before...

Do these cars have Idle air control valves? I dont know about with drive by wire intakes but the cable controlled throttles have a valve that lets air into the intake when the butterfly is closed controlling the air intake at idle. Maybe that is clogged or not functioning properly giving you a low idle and high pitched noise.

5.5 gen maximas are electric tb. The only assumption I can make is there is a leak in the intake manifold somewhere.. Either where the 4 (12mm or 14mm bolts are, I can't recal atm) bolts are, or something is just leaking but I feel no loose air... Anyway to check?? It's really driving me crazy.

get some carb cleaner and spray around the intake areas like were the gaskets are. If you get a change in idle there is your leak, but if you did have a intake leak you should have thrown a SES light by now.

best way imo is to fill a spray bottle with water and some soap. spray the engine where you think there might be leaks )IM, ect) and look for bubbles

I actually JUST got a ses light. Looked around where the 4 bolts are supposed 2 be, and I only got 3.
Believe the culprit is found.

I guess the system is trying to figure out where this extra air is coming from and its closing the throttle plate to compensate for the leak at idle. Maybe the plate is closed real thight and its making a whistle sound as the air is passing through. Is the missing bolt on the intake or throttle body?

There are 2 parts to the intake manifold, they are connected by 4 bolts. The bolts are located after the tb(towards the intake manifold) and before the actual intake manifold meets the top of the motor. I've circled the exact bolt that's missing.
I did change plugs about a month and a half ago, maybe I forgot to tighten this bolt?

It may have fell out and air is being sucked into that hole. that maybe the whistling noise also, go to a dealer and they can do a blow up of the intake which would show the bolt you need. I hope thats it.

Yeah, it's not bad while in car, outside and ESPECIALLY with hood open it's HELLLLL.
It's raining hard here, Tomorrow ima get some heat protective gloves, put my finger on the hole missing the bolt and hope it stops. If it does, there's my problem...
Than I just needa find out what size bolt that is......... Anyone know before I test and guess repeatedly?

So apparently today the ses light went away at start up and no sound...... So it's making me re-think it's the M10 bolt, which i'm still ordering btw...

I noticed today after playin around with it, that if I disconnect the hoses connected to the vias, the whistle stops. Does this mean I have a bad vias? Do I have to buy a new one or could I just simply "clean" it out somehow? Someone give me feedback and quick info on the functions of the vias? Assuming something idle air?
Also is it safe to drive the car with a bad vias?

Also if it costs 100+ to get a new vias aren't I better off just getting a spacer kit?
Thanks
