KYB's are OEM replacements, so there should be no real difference?

... unless by OEM you mean Nissan brand and/or purchased from the dealer. In any case, I don't think strut mounts really determine the comfort of the ride; struts do.

i'm at 103k miles and my mounts look brand new to me. Like they said, kyb or oem or even moog mounts are pretty standard. Its the struts that determine the ride.

Some cheapo mounts will break faster of course though than the more quality mounts.

I had problems with the KYB mounts binding when I changed the struts and mounts on my '99. I would personally go with OEM.

After patiently researching strut replacements for many months, the consensus I've interpreted here is to go with Moog mounts and OEM (Nissan) boots.

That's my plan, at least.

DO NOT GO WITH KYB for mounts. They aren't designed correctly! They don't have the "D" shape for the struts to position/remain stationed and they also aren't deep enough.... if you take a look at the strut thread you will notice that the strut mount will need to be thick/deep enough so it will not max out the threads which results in play.
OEM only, for strut mounts.

My preference is Moog for all the installs I do - they even come with replacement strut bearings. OEM would be my second choice.

Not a fan of the KYB's. They DO have the D in the hole for the center nut.

I couldn't find rear shock mounts either from Moog at Rockauto. I ended up buying KYB's from Amazon.

These are good questions about the rear and Moog parts.

djfrestyl, what do you use for rear mounts?

Another possibility is Monroe Strut-Mate Mounts, though I personally had to get one replaced under warranty due to a failed/binding bearing (after about 1 month after installation).

I have Monroe mounts in the front & back...but only that one gave me problems.

I found Moog front and rear mounts @ OReillyauto.com. Part# Front K90655 & Rear K90299.

I NEVER replace rear mounts. They're metal plates with a bit of rubber, which never goes bad.

There are a couple rubber 'blocks/spacers/bushings' in there that could stand to be replaced, but don't HAVE to be either.

Illuminas used to come with replacement rubber pieces, but the last install I did didn't have them included, so I'm not sure if they stopped that practice.

Rockauto.

Though recently I've been buying Moog from Amazon.com with very good results. Excellent price, fast to ship and free shipping. Can't go wrong...

So I only need front mounts (from moog and they come w/bearings) & use the stock rears, very good!

I emailed DaveB, the OEM mounts have a separate bearing that you have to purchase!

DO I NEED ANYTHING ELSE???

See, now, that's exactly why we ask this stuff.

Thank you, DJ, once again... and again and again

Just for everyone's information, rear shock mounts on 2000-2001 are not metal plates (not sure about 2002-2003); they look more like rubber-encased pieces along with rubber bushings and spacers. Those bushings and spacers DO go bad, as I found out when replacing my rear shocks. From what I learned at a couple of autoparts, they are not sold separately but as a set, as seen on the picture below.

This is getting confusing..

So by "BAD" meaning the rubber has worn down to where its metal on metal?

I trying to be safe then sorry here b/c I have some friends from the org thats gonna help with the swap (Im not handy) and would hate to be in the middle of this and need a part I CANT get locally & kills the install....

The little pieces on the right in the picture can go bad. The larger piece on the left is a rubber encased metal plate, which I've NEVER seen go bad, nor have I seen any rubber 'wear' down to the metal on the larger piece.

Nelsito and I are saying the same thing. Pay more attention to the smaller pieces than the larger.

I think I need to change the strut mounts too, I just need advise before I do them. I have been having problems with vibration and loose feeling on driver side for long time. Can someone with experience help me determine if its mounts, hub bearing or something else. Rock Auto has good price on Moog mounts and hub bearing as well.

Vibration most likely won't be your strut mount. I'd check wheel balance, tie rod ends, and wheel bearings.

A more accurate description of your symptom would also help. Do you hear any noises?

Coilover set (Tein SS) you wont need any of these addtional parts. I heard Moog was the way to go in earlier threads.

This is a discussion about spring/strut setups, not coilovers.

Though you're right about not needing the parts, it's a completely irrelevant comment/suggestion.

Thanks for the quick reply, I had wheel and tire balanced many times, the vibration never seems to go away. When I go around a corner it feels like driver side tire is going to loose traction any second. I had dealer checked everything and he said that everything seems to be OK, it might be your tires (Falken 912). I had the same problem when I had Toyo proxes. If its wheel bearing, how hard is to replace it by yourself ?. I forgot to mention its 2003 I35 with 140K.

If you get a new hub with a new bearing pressed in, it's not terribly hard, but you do need certain key tools - like a socket for an axle, and air tools (or a BIG breaker bar) and a large open ended wrench for the ball joint (22mm-23mm).
