How is your car still under warranty? And how did you get them to replace the tranny because of the syncros?

was looking over install sheet on ES website. It only shows one piece going in under the hood on the tranny. But there are two places there, right? One cable shifts 1-4. The other is 5,6 and R. So do enough parts come with the kit to do everything??

jealous? lol jk... how about i only have 37K miles.... so now.. 37 on body and motor and 200 on the trans lol.....

long story short.. i had an automatic 00...totaled it.. bought my 5.5 gen from a nissan dealer.. and bought the extended warrenty 3yr36 .. this was about a year and a half ago...def just paid for itself

the main problem was 6th gear.. it just would not go into gear.. the gate for 6 was blocked.. maybe a bent fork? idk.. and i also complained that going into 3rd would grind... cost me 53 bucks(deductable) for the new tranny.. AND they put in a new rear motor mount for me because they found it was bad when they dropped the crossmember which was included in that 53 bucks....only crappy thing is i cant mod to heavily in fear of voiding my warrenty.. for example.. i had to spend half a day going back to stock.. block plate.. intake.. hd catchcan.. fstb.. ltb...so yesterday i had to do the same putting it back on... lol but im lowered on progress/illuminas/RSB on 18's and they didnt say anything about that so IDK...

"jealous"? Yes. Definitely. I'd love to get a new tranny on someone else's dime.

Good for you, man.

1. What were the symptoms that you were having to warrant changing the bushings? Although I just had a new tranny installed a few months ago (under warranty), it sometimes feels like it clunks into gear instead of gliding in smoothly.

2. Are these available for the 5th gen 5 spd?

Thanks for this thread. This might be what I'm needing to make things feel smooth.
No idea if they are for 5 spds, but the bushings eliminate the slop in the shifting. Stock bushings are soft rubber (think pink solid rubber ***** from your youth) and the ES bushing are very dense. The STS shortens the throw about 40% and the combination makes driving a manual so mush better.

one controls the up/down of the selector and the other actually engages the gears. its similar to what on the shifter inside the car

Aah, ok. I was somewhat confused. Few months back one of the "clips" came off the cable on the tranny and all my gears "moved" to the left and I lost reverse. Made the clip at work and presto! all was right again. Bought a real clip from Nissan to keep in the console just in case.

Cattman Performance is a shop out west run by Brian Catts; hence the "Cattman". Call him at 1.800.759.9920. His website is years out of date, so call him direct. He's incredibly helpful. I think he was selling the Ralco kit a while back.

Or simply relocate the cable. (Free!) Search on "STS" in the 5th Gen Forum and you'll finds lots of threads on the topic.

I did the bushings on the short shifter ages ago and I have the Watkins short shifter kit. I also did the bushings under the big plastic piece and I think they do make a difference. It takes the slop out of the big white hunk of plastic that the shifter is using as a base. Although they don't make the Watkins anymore there are other versions of the same kit. I think the kit has been copied by at least 4 or 5 other companies. Although the ralco kit works, I think the 2 piece design is a better design. The two piece design does not add more moving parts, it still just moves the fulcrum point of where the cable attaches to the shifter mechanism at the transmission

Ralco or TWM short shifter

I don't have pics of the 2 piece version, but IMHO the two piece is much stronger and the one piece looks a bit flimsy

The latest name of the company that sells the 2 piece is Axxtion

Where can you buy the Axxtion kit from?

I just said this elsewhere, but it applies to this comment, too: The only Honda which is on par with the Maxima isn't a Honda, it's an Acura.

As to the STS as a "kit", I know for a fact someone recently bought a Ralco Kit here on the 5th Gen forum. Research Ralco RZ.

Or just move the shifter cable towards the transmission a nudge. I was very skeptical about that approach, but there is a wealth of info here on the Free STS Mod. I've done it. Hundreds of other people have done it. It works, and it's free.

You need to contact Cattman for the Ralco STS. I bought mine last year before he stocked them, from TWM Performance and paid $100.
http://www.twmperformance.com/shorts...rtshifters.htm

Cattman stocks the very similar unit for around $50-60.
